Análise da sustentabilidade de estruturas : aço vs betão

Abstract

O objetivo principal deste trabalho foi a análise do desempenho do sistema estrutural, no contexto da construção sustentável. Em primeiro lugar, foi apresentado o estado da arte deste tema, através da contextualização das metodologias existentes bem como de alguns estudos semelhantes já realizados. Como caso de estudo, foram comparadas duas estruturas representativas dos dois materiais estruturais, o betão e o aço, com desenhos distintos mas com a mesma função estrutural. Através da análise LCA de cada estrutura, bem como do respectivo desempenho económico e social, o balanço sustentável foi feito entre as três dimensões. Neste contexto, a estrutura em betão apresentou-se com melhor desempenho sustentável, sendo também a estrutura com melhor desempenho individual na área económica. No que diz respeito ao comportamento ambiental, a estrutura em aço apresentou o melhor desempenho. Quanto à dimensão social, as duas estruturas apresentaram resultados semelhantes. Por fim, foi feita a comparação destes resultados com os estudos apresentados, relacionando as suas características principais com o presente trabalho. Esta análise permitiu concluir que a eleição do material mais sustentável entre o betão e o aço não é consensual.

The main objective of this study was to analyze the performance of the structural system in the context of sustainable construction. Firstly, there was presented the state of the art in this issue, through contextualization of existing methodologies as well as some similar studies already performed. As a case study, we compared two representative structures of the two structural materials: concrete and steel, but with distinctive designs with the same structural function. Through LCA analysis of each structure, as well as its economic and social performance, the balance was done through the results on the three dimensions. In this context, the concrete structure was presented with the best sustainability performance, and also the structure with the best individual performance in the economic area. With regard to environmental performance, the steel structure presented the best performance. Regarding the social dimension, the two structures showed similar results. Finally, a comparison was made with the results of the studies presented, relating the main characteristics of the present work. This analysis concluded that the election of the more sustainable material, between the concrete and steel, is not consensual.
