World Wide Web e dos computadores pessoais.
The emergence of the Internet has changed very significantly the world of journalism. Online journalism has gained great importance and has become an essential part of the media strategy. The investment in this type of journalism is increasing as a result of the World Wide Web and personal computers massification. This is a universe still evolving and that differs from traditional journalism in that it has unique features such as multimediality, immediacy, interactivity and hypertextuality. New doors are opening to journalists and also to the readers, since the relationship between these two has also changed with the emergence of the internet. My internship in the online section of Jornal de Notícicias has allowed me to have direct contact with this new reality. From that experience, this paper will reflect on the ethical challenges faced by cyberjournalists. The increasingly closer relationship between commercial and editorial department, the use of hyperlinks, the change of published contents or digital manipulation are some of the topics we will discuss. The aim is to understand if there is a need to create new ethical guidelines able to regulate the online journalism, or if the existing ethical rules are sufficient to regulate the practice and ensure a quality ciberjournalism. |
