Conhecer as preocupações
The aim of this study is to deepen the knowledge on the theme of active aging. The context that justifies this choice is marked, in general terms, by a large demographic transformation, seen all over the world, with particular emphasis on the increasing longevity and the aging of the population, reflected in an increasing pressure that is exerted on the social protection systems of the elderly population and its financing, especially in the context of so-called Welfare-States of Europe. This aging of the population is analyzed here, however, especially in some of its sociological aspects and implications. We know that chronological age is a somewhat arbitrary indicator for the capabilities and opportunities that people have to actively contribute to society. There are therefore different approaches about how societies and individuals deal with the issue of aging. However, we can say that has prevailed in recent years a consensus view about the overall political goals to be achieved and that pass through the promotion and implementation of active aging. In the beginning of the dissertation we then pay some attention to the Portuguese Strategy for Active Ageing, which is aligned with the broader strategy within the European Union and aims to mobilize senior citizens for an active life, calling for the implementation of policies and practices towards this objective. Among other aspects, there has been an attempt to enhance the inclusion of older workers in the labour market. In terms of empirical research, in addition to the use of documentary sources and statistics, we have opted for conducting twelve exploratory interviews with persons aged between 58 and 63 years. The main objective for this route exploratory study was to know whether there is scope for interviewees in promoting active aging. The aim is to understand their professional trajectories recent, their outlook for retirement and the possibility of having more support for an "old age" more active, and the difficulties that arise in this transitional phase of life. Knowing the concerns that individuals have with the entry in the reform, which losses and gains, as they occupy their free time, what they think about the labor market remained on the prospects of this new stage of life. |
