Abstract

Uma questão de sentido(s): habitar a sombra é um trabalho que reflecte sobre os sentidos do homem, na ausência da visão, e sobre o habitar deste individuo, inserido na cultura ocidental. Pretende-se com este trabalho compreender os mecanismos inerentes à assimilação dos sentidos e o que poderão significar no universo da habitação. Na primeira parte, Esferas do Sentir, aborda os sentidos e procura mostrar que o que se sente vai para além daquilo que a consciência deixa transparecer. Tenta, assim, compreender o contributo dos estímulos sensoriais para a percepção espacial, estudando o universo dos invisuais. Na segunda parte, Esferas do Habitar, percorre os espaços integrantes da casa, analisando o significado e exigências específicas para quem não vê e identificando onde residem os problemas deste habitar singular. A relação das questões da percepção do espaço, com a arquitectura, é feita com intuito de identificar premissas, passíveis de serem utilizadas na fase de projecto sobre a habitação do cego, e que contribuam de forma efectiva para o desenho e formalização de espaços sensorialmente complexos e identificáveis. Através de entrevistas feitas a um grupo de invisuais, indagando sobre a percepção e o espaço, concretizou-se uma ponte entre teoria e prática e apurou-se o projecto, compreendendo que existem pontos do habitar a sombra que nos levam a focar a atenção nas partes, em vez do todo. Em suma, é uma reflexão sobre a percepção do espaço, sem a informação visual, procurando perceber como os restantes sentidos, não poucas vezes marginais no âmbito da arquitectura, se interligam entre si e nos fornecem os códigos necessários para a construção do mundo, aqui, o privado, do habitar.

A question of sense(s): to inhabit the shadow eflects on the man’s senses, in the absence of sight, and about the dwell of this being, . With this work we seek to understand the inherent mechanisms of the senses’ assimilation, and what could they mean in the dwelling universe. The first part, Realms of Sensing, explores the senses and attempts to demonstrate that what one feel may go beyond what our conscience allows to envisage. Therefore, one tries to understand the input of the sensory impulses in spatial perception, studying the visually impaired universe. The second part, Realms of Inhabiting, travels through the house spaces, analyzing the specific meaning and requirements to those who can’t see and where are the problems of this particular inhabiting. The relationship between the questions of perception and architecture, has the purpose of indentifying acceptable premises to be used in the visually impaired dwelling project phase, and which contribute in a effective way to the design of sensory complex and identifiable spaces. Through the interviews made with a group of visually impaired people, questioning about perception and space, a connection was made between theory and practice and thus perfected the project, understanding that there are points in inhabiting the shadow that lead us to focus the attention to the details. Succinctly , this work studies the spatial perception, without the visual information, attempting to understand how the remaining senses, not infrequently seen as marginal in architecture’s sphere, connect to each other and provide the necessary codes to perceive the world, in this case, the private one, the inhabiting one.
