De nariz vermelho no hospital : a actividade lúdica dos Doutores Palhaços com crianças hospitalizadas

Abstract

A presente investigação descreve e analisa a estrutura, princípios, valores e metodologias, entre outros aspectos, referentes à Associação Operação Nariz Vermelho (ONV), nomeadamente ao nível da acção dos seus artistas profissionais, os Doutores Palhaços, aquando da realização de visitas a crianças hospitalizadas. A situação de doença na infância afecta o desenvolvimento e o bem-estar da criança, em vários domínios, sejam eles psíquicos, físicos ou emocionais, tornando-a mais vulnerável e tendo repercussões ao nível do seu desenvolvimento, auto-estima e auto-confiança. A investigação empírica realizou-se durante doze meses, numa perspectiva etnográfica. Os resultados mostram uma forte relação de empatia e cumplicidade entre os Doutores Palhaços e as crianças, bem como um forte sentido de pertença, da parte dos artistas, com a comunidade hospitalar, visível nas relações estabelecidas com os profissionais do hospital, no âmbito de um processo de atendimento e prestação de cuidados de qualidade à criança, que se deseja sinónimo de bem-estar e alegria. Este sentimento de partilha e de criação de laços estende-se ainda aos familiares das crianças, nomeadamente aos pais, que funcionam como canais de comunicação entre a relação Doutor Palhaço-Criança. Os Doutores Palhaços asseguram os direitos da criança hospitalizada, nomeadamente ao brincar, à alegria e ao bem-estar, em circunstâncias emocionalmente muito intensas para as crianças e os adultos que as rodeiam, familiares e profissionais. O trabalho dos Doutores Palhaços é realizado numa perspectiva de animação hospitalar e de “associativismo cidadão”. Com efeito, a ONV, oficialmente constituída em 2002, tem características peculiares vinculadas à cidadania. A sua principal missão é assegurar um programa de intervenção em hospitais portugueses, através da visita de artistas profissionais (Doutores Palhaços), que têm uma vocação e formação especializadas para trabalhar em contexto hospitalar e em estreita colaboração com os profissionais hospitalares. Não é comum pensar o brincar da criança e a sua alegria e bem-estar no hospital, pois existe a ideia de que o hospital é unicamente um lugar de sofrimento. Esta pré-concepção pode funcionar como impedimento à implementação de projectos que ampliem a possibilidade de experienciar actividade lúdica, promotora de alegria e bem-estar no hospital. Neste sentido, os objectivos gerais desta investigação são observar para conhecer, analisar e interpretar a actividade lúdica com crianças, no hospital, pelos Doutores Palhaços da ONV; analisar o papel dos vários actores no processo de recuperação da criança, nomeadamente os pais, os profissionais de saúde, os Doutores Palhaços e as próprias crianças. Esta investigação, de carácter etnográfico, foca-se mais especificamente nestes artistas profissionais, os Doutores Palhaços. As dimensões de análise incluem os modos da sua actuação; as relações e interacções estabelecidas com as crianças e os seus familiares; bem como, compreender os efeitos da sua acção, na perspectiva dos próprios Doutores Palhaços.

This research describes and analyzes the structure, principles, values, methodologies, among other aspects, of the “Operação Nariz Vermelho - ONV” Association of Portugal (Red Nose Association), mainly analyzing the action of their professional artists, Doctors Clowns, during the realization of visits to hospitalized children. Sickness in childhood affects the development and wellbeing of the child in various domains, (physical, psychic or emotional), making it more vulnerable and having repercussions at their development, self-esteem and confidence. The empirical research was carried during twelve months, in an ethnographic perspective. Findings show a strong empathy and complicity relation between the children and Doctors Clowns; as long as a strong sense of belonging to a hospital community by the part of the artists, visible in the relationships with the hospital professionals, under a process of care and provision of quality care to children, which is desirable to be synonym for wellbeing and happiness. This sense of belonging and bonding process also extends to the children family (mostly parents), who work as a communication channels between the relationship Doctor Clownchild. Doctors Clowns assure the hospitalized children rights, namely the right to play, happiness and wellbeing, in challenging circumstances both for them, for the children and for the surrounding adults: family and hospital professionals. The Doctors Clowns‟ work is developed under a perspective of happiness and wellbeing activities in a hospital, and “citizen associativism”. Indeed, the ONV, officially constituted in 2002, has peculiar characteristics, bounded to citizenship. His main purpose is to assure in a continuous way an intervention program inside of Portuguese Hospitals, through the visit of professional artists (the Doctors Clowns) who have specialized vocational training inside the hospital and work in straight collaboration with the hospital professionals. It is considered that understanding children‟s playing and their happiness and wellbeing in the hospital it‟s not ordinary, because of the common idea that the hospital is only the place for suffering. This pre-conception may work as an obstacle to the implementation of projects that amplify the possibility to experience happiness and wellbeing activities in the hospital. In this way, the main objectives of this research are: observe to understand and analyze and interpret the happiness and wellbeing activities with children, in hospital, by the ONV‟s Doctors Clowns; to analyze the role of the various actors in the children‟s process of recovery, mainly the parents, hospital professionals, Doctors Clowns and the children. The ethnographic research is mainly focused on these artists/professionals, the Doctors Clowns. The research dimensions of analysis includes the type of Doctors Clowns intervention; the relationships and interactions between the Doctors Clowns and children and their relatives (mostly parents); to understand the effects of the action of the Doctors Clowns, from their own point of view.
