Educação e cidadania em Rousseau

Abstract

Em Rousseau a problemática referente à educação é determinada no momento em que o autor afirma ser preciso optar entre fazer um homem ou um cidadão, não podendo fazer os dois simultaneamente. Rousseau constata a existência de duas realidades: a esfera do privado e a esfera do público. O Emílio seria o protótipo do homem que viveria, de forma harmoniosa, na sociedade do Contrato Social. Estes textos tentam conciliar as duas esferas, ou seja o Homem e o Cidadão. Porém, o cidadão torna-se uma ilusão, pois, não fazendo a síntese das duas esferas relega a esfera do privado para um estado de aprisionamento.

In Rousseau, the problem regarding education becomes determined the moment the author claims as necessary to choose between making a man or a citizen, the making both being an impossibility. Rousseau acknowledges two sorts of reality: the private sphere and the public sphere. Émile is an attempt to sketch the prototype of a man who would be able to live harmoniously in the world present to us in The Social Contract. These are essays which attempt to reconcile the private with the public sphere. But Rather than producing a synthetic conciliation between the private and the public sphere, the position occupied by the citizen achieves only the imprisonment of the private within the public.
