Cyberbullying em Portugal: uma perspectiva sociológica

Abstract

A dissertação consiste num estudo exploratório sociológico do fenómeno do cyberbullying entre os jovens portugueses universitários. Na sua componente teórica, faz uma exploração dos conceitos de bullying, cibercultura e cyberbullying, passando pela questão de como estudar o cyber, onde se avança com um modelo epistemológico, adoptando fundamentalmente o contributo fundamental de Gregory Bateson no estudo deste fenómeno emergente. Demonstrando a importância do desenvolvimento do conceito de quadro de interacção, sublinha-se a ambiguidade na comunicação entre seres humanos, defendido por Gregory Bateson. Neste sentido e ainda sob a influência de Bateson, é adoptada neste trabalho uma perspectiva interdisciplinar que inclui a psicologia social e a sociologia da comunicação. Tendo em conta que os fenómenos emergentes são de difícil estudo, foi adoptada uma estratégia de investigação combinando técnicas qualitativas e quantitativas que incluíram observação, grupos focais, entrevistas e inquérito. Assim sendo, este trabalho, cujo objectivo passava por explorar e definir as características do cyberbullying em Portugal, analisa o comportamento dos jovens universitários face ao mesmo, em termos de informação, atitudes e crenças mostrando que existe uma grande ambiguidade na forma como o fenómeno é visto e praticado.

The dissertation is an exploratory study of the sociological phenomenon of cyberbullying among young Portuguese students. In its theoretical component, is an exploration of the concepts of bullying, cyberbullying and cyberculture, by studying the question of how cyber, which moves with an epistemological model, adopting essentially the fundamental contribution of Gregory Bateson in the study of this emerging phenomenon. Demonstrating the importance of developing the concept of a framework for interaction, it underlines the ambiguity in communication between humans, defended by Gregory Bateson. This and still under the influence of Bateson, is adopted in this work an interdisciplinary perspective that includes the social psychology and sociology of communication. Since the emergent phenomena are difficult to study, we adopted a research strategy combining qualitative and quantitative techniques that included observation, focus groups, interviews and investigation. Thus, this study, whose aim was to explore and define the characteristics of cyberbullying in Canada, examines the behaviour of young graduates face the same in terms of information, attitudes and beliefs by showing that there is great ambiguity in how the phenomenon is seen and practiced.
