A linguagem não verbal no exercício do poder social

Abstract

Esta dissertação tem como intuito fundamental entregar uma pequena contribuição para o estudo da linguagem não verbal e a sua importância no meio social. Partindo de uma fase inicial, em que me centrei num enquadramento teórico de investigações outrora feitas, fui afunilando este trabalho numa análise mais prática e empírica, sem nunca descurar os "mapas" que fui descobrindo ao longo da minha pesquisa. Numa primeira fase, centrei-me em relembrar quais as distintas formas de comunicar não verbalmente, criando uma base consistente para uma análise social feita no decorrer desta dissertação. Após isto, debrucei-me sobre a utilização deste tipo de linguagem aquando de uma interação entre um orador e um público, partindo daí uma primeira análise sobre os atores políticos, a sua conduta e o poder que conseguem exercer aproveitando estas ferramentas. Para que esta investigação não decorresse de um modo estritamente teórico, analisei distintos sujeitos e o seu comportamento não verbal para conseguir entender de que modo estes usam os modos não verbais para convencer, manipular, transmitir mensagens poderosas e controlar as massas. Para isto, enveredei por uma análise videográfica (partindo das bases teóricas apreendidas anteriormente) para demonstrar de modo "palpável" a utilização efetiva e os resultados visíveis da comunicação não verbal. Por fim, tudo isto gerou uma sensação de contribuição para com este vasto campo de estudo, terminando com uma perceção clara da importância deste tipo de linguagem para aquilo que tem de ser o nosso combate conjunto contra a manipulação, em prole de uma melhor democracia e de uma melhoria na nossa liberdade individual.

This dissertation has the fundamental aim of making a small contribution to the study of non-verbal language and its importance in the social environment. Initially, I focused on a theoretical framework of previous investigations, I began to funnel this work into a more practical and empirical analysis, without ever neglecting the "maps" that I discovered throughout my research. Initially, I focused on remembering the different ways of communicating non verbally, creating a consistent basis for a social analysis carried out throughout this dissertation. Afterwards, I looked at the use of this type of language during an interaction between a speaker and an audience, by first analysing a series of politicians, their conduct, and the power they were able to exercise by taking advantage of these tools. To make this investigation not a strictly theoretical one, I analyzed different subjects and their non-verbal behavior to understand how they convince, manipulate, transmit powerful messages, and control the masses. To this end, I embarked on a videographic analysis (starting from the theoretical bases previously learned) to demonstrate in a "tangible" way the effective use and visible results of non-verbal communication. By the end, I was left with a feeling of contribution to this vast field of study, with a clear perception of the importance of this type of language for what must be our joint fight against manipulation, in favor of a better democracy and of an improvement in our individual freedom.
