DesignBuilder.
In 2015, the European Union signed the Paris Agreement, whose main objective is to achieve carbon neutrality by the year 2050, which implies that total emissions of CO2, a gas that contributes to the greenhouse effect, are balanced by removals [1]. The environmental challenges that society faces have given rise to growing concern regarding energy consumption and climate change. As the building sector consumes the most energy worldwide, dynamic simulation appears as a good tool for making decisions prior to the design of buildings, in order to make processes more efficient, reducing consumption. The motivation for this work arises from the need to understand how different operating strategies for air conditioning systems influence the energy consumption of a commercial and service building. In this work, the energy consumption of a space of a service building and ways to reduce this consumption are determined. The software used in this work was EnergyPlus, through the DesignBuilder interface. In a first phase, the air conditioning of the building's auditorium is studied using different models of the same Rooftop unit, with different performances, implying different acquisition costs, to assess from what point the initial investment in better machines pays off. It was also possible to verify the advantage of obtaining direct information about the occupancy of a space, through a CO2 sensor, in order to be able to regulate ventilation for that occupancy. In a second part, strategies related to the management of the building were used, with no variations in initial investment. Firstly, the auditorium's air conditioning was tested by varying the ventilation temperatures from the Rooftop and then different space temperature setpoints. Different inflation temperatures influence the time it takes for the space to be air conditioned. Additionally, it was possible to notice that the greater the difference between the outside temperature and the setpoint, the greater the work required by the machine and, consequently, the greater its consumption. |
