e a numeracia.
(Efetiva e Percecionada) e as várias dimensões do comportamento financeiro (planear, poupar e
investir).
parental. Desta forma, foi possível aceitar as 6 hipóteses propostas. The main objective of this dissertation is to analyze the influence of financial literacy (both effective and perceived) on financial behavior. The analysis begins by defining financial literacy and how it can be measured. Next, the determinants of financial literacy are analyzed, considering a set of socio-demographic variables. Subsequently, the influence of financial literacy on behavior, which is the main objective of this dissertation, is analyzed. Other determinants of financial behavior are also examined, including self-control, overconfidence, risk aversion, parental influence, and numeracy. Socio-demographic variables are also introduced as control variables. Financial behavior is analyzed according to the following dimensions: planning, saving, and investment. To address the defined objectives and hypotheses, an instrument (questionnaire) was created, distributed online via Google FormsTM, and required that individuals be over 18 years old. After data collection and processing, correlations, OLS, Probit, and Ordered Probit regressions were analyzed, with the dependent variables being financial literacy (Effective and Perceived) and the various dimensions of financial behavior (planning, saving, and investing). The initial findings show that the level of financial literacy in Portugal is low and that there is a strong correlation between perceived and effective financial literacy. Furthermore, financial literacy is influenced by gender, age group, level of education, and monthly income. Regarding financial behavior, it was concluded that it is influenced by financial literacy, cognitive biases, risk aversion, and parental influence. Thus, it was possible to accept the 6 proposed hypotheses. |
