Relatório de sustentabilidade numa PME da indústria têxtil e vestuário

Abstract

A presente dissertação foi desenvolvida no âmbito do Mestrado em Engenharia Industrial da Universidade do Minho. Este trabalho de investigação procurou fornecer orientações e estrutura para o primeiro relatório de sustentabilidade da AF Vilas Boas – Malhas & Bordados, Lda, uma Pequena e Média Empresa (PME) portuguesa do setor Têxtil e Vestuário, seguindo o disposto nas últimas atualizações das normas da Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), decorrentes do ano 2021. Aproveitando o trabalho já desenvolvido pela empresa no âmbito da sustentabilidade foi desenvolvida uma metodologia de ajuste à avaliação da materialidade, que implicou o recurso a fontes diretas e indiretas de informação, criando um mecanismo facilitador para a construção de sequentes relatórios de sustentabilidade. A reduzida amostragem de relatórios de sustentabilidade no setor; a ausência de relatórios de sustentabilidade de acordo com as normas da GRI no têxtil em Portugal; e a subjetividade inerente às avaliações de materialidade neles verificadas foram as principais limitações confrontadas nesta dissertação. Este estudo resulta assim em importantes contributos para a academia e empresa. Será de destacar a contribuição metodológica, pela apresentação detalhada das fases necessárias à elaboração do relatório de sustentabilidade e que poderão ser replicadas ou adaptadas a diferentes organizações. Adicionalmente, importa referir o contributo para a empresa AF Vilas Boas – Malhas & Bordados, Lda. com a elaboração do seu relatório de sustentabilidade e o modelo de recolha e organização da informação associado. Este trabalho contribuiu para reforçar o posicionamento e a imagem da empresa no setor, através da construção e divulgação do seu primeiro relatório de sustentabilidade. Houve ainda o contributo na melhoria de comunicação com os seus stakeholders, na divulgação mais rápida e eficaz do seu desempenho económico, social e ambiental, num auxílio direto ao crescimento, credibilidade e inovação da empresa no negócio.

This dissertation was developed in the scope of the Master's in Industrial Engineering at the University of Minho. This study sought to provide guidelines and structure for the first sustainability report of AF Vilas Boas - Malhas & Bordados, Lda, a Portuguese Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) in the Textile and Clothing sector, following the provisions of the latest updates of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, arising from the year 2021. Taking advantage of the work already developed by the company in the field of sustainability, an adjustment methodology for the materiality assessment was developed. Direct and indirect sources of information were used, creating a facilitating mechanism for the construction of subsequent sustainability reports. The small sample of sustainability reports in the sector; the absence of sustainability reports according to GRI standards in textiles in Portugal; and the subjectivity inherent to the materiality assessments verified in them were the main limitations found in this dissertation. This work is an important contribution to academia and the company. It provides a methodological contribution with a detailed presentation of the phases necessary for the elaboration of the sustainability report, which may be replicated or adapted in different organizations. Additionally, it is important to refer to the contribution of this work to the company AF Vilas Boas – Malhas & Bordados, Lda, with the elaboration of its sustainability report and the associated information collection and organization model. This study contributed to the consolidation of the company's positioning and image in the sector, through the construction and disclosure of its first sustainability report. It also contributed to improving communication with its stakeholders, and to more rapidly and effectively disclosing its economic, social, and environmental performance, directly helping the company's growth, credibility, and innovation in the business.
