Tongobriga: a aplicação do léxico arquitetónico itálico em contexto provincial

Abstract

No limite sul do conventus Bracaraugustanus, nas margens do rio Tâmega, foi fundada a cidade de Tongobriga, nos finais do século I, cujos vestígios evidenciam a diversidade da sua sociedade, originária de um castro, e que no período romano cumpriu funções geoestratégicas, presumivelmente relacionadas com o domínio de dois importantes eixos viários peninsulares: o rio Douro e a via ab Bracara Augusta ad Augustam Emeritam, que permitia a ligação entre o conventus e a capital da Lusitania. Nesse sentido, iremos valorizar o conjunto habitacional identificado de forma a analisar a aplicação do léxico arquitetónico itálico neste privilegiado contexto provincial.

At the southern limit of the conventus Bracaraugustanus, on the banks of the river Tâmega, the city of Tongobriga was founded at the end of the 1st century, whose remains show the diversity of its society, originating from a Castro, and which in the Roman period fulfilled geostrategic functions, presumably related to the dominion of two important peninsular road axes: the river Douro and the via ab Bracara Augusta ad Augustam Emeritam, which allowed the connection between the conventus and the capital of Lusitania. In this sense, we will value the identified housing complex in order to analyse the application of the italic architectural lexicon in this privileged provincial context.
