Nessa mesma secção, calculamos a condutividade ótica do sistema quer no regime
In this dissertation we explore some of the main optical properties of transition metal dichalcogenides due to excitonic effects. In the first part of the text we study the case of a monolayer of MoS2 near a magnetic material. There, we find that due to the proximity with the magnetic material, the time reversal symmetry in the TMD is broken, which leads to a finite Hall response even in the absence of an external magnetic field. In the same section, we compute the optical conductivity of the system both in the single particle picture and when excitons are accounted for, studying the effect of exciting the system with different light polarizations. In both cases a valley selective response when circularly polarized light is used was found, with either the K or K’ valleys being excited. In the following section we focus on the 𝑝−states, a class of excitons which does not appear in interband optical excitation due to selection rules, but can be studied in pump-probe experiments. Starting from the microscopic definition of the polarizability, we studied how a pump laser can populate the 1s state, while a probe induces transitions from the 1s to the 𝑝−series. The final two sections of the dissertation are dedicated to the study of the interaction of excitons with phonons There, we compute the homogeneous linewidth of the 1𝑠 resonance in different TMDs at finite temperature, and find that in TMDs with molybdenum the linewidth increases linearly with temperature, with an exponential correction at higher temperatures, while for TMDs with tungsten the linewidth deviates from a linear dependence even at low temperatures. Furthermore, we also studied how the coupling with phonons produces a red-shift of the 1𝑠 absorption peak and leads the formation of phonon sidebands, which are responsible for an asymmetrical broadening of the resonance. |
