O projeto da cobertura da Casa Martins Sarmento

Abstract

A presente investigação manifesta-se como uma oportunidade em desenvolver uma análise sobre as Coberturas Tradicionais Portuguesas em Madeira. Esta dissertação nasce da análise sobre a madeira enquanto material de construção e a sua aplicação em coberturas tradicionais, nomeadamente o reconhecimento dos diversos elementos constituintes das coberturas. Todo o conhecimento adquirido é aplicado no caso de estudo a Casa Martins Sarmento, construção emblemática e marcante do centro histórica da cidade de guimarães, construída por volta do séc. XVIII e que em 1975 sofreu um incêndio com início na parte superior do edifício destruindo a cobertura e descaracterizando o edificado. A dissertação apresenta todo o processo de descoberta desta cobertura, desde a sua geometria à sua estrutura em madeira, ao revestimento, ao seu sistema de escoamento de águas e ventilação, entre outros. Esta análise baseia-se no reconhecimento e levantamento das marcas descobertas em obra. O Projeto propôe a demolição da cobertura existente e a construção de uma nova cobertura em estrutura de madeira, que apesar de se basear nas formas e materiais tradicionais recorre a elementos e sistemas construtivos atuais conferindo à cobertura uma maior eficiência, acústica, térmica e energética. Por fim, a investigação aqui desenvolvida procura também valorizar o uso da madeira enquanto material de construção, que, apesar de ter sido desvalorizada aos longo dos anos, é um material com um potencial renovado, que se tem posicionado como um material do futuro.

This research is an opportunity to develop an analysis of Portuguese traditional roofing in wood. This research is born from the analysis of wood as a building material and its application in traditional roofing, namely the recognition of the various elements that make up a roof. All the knowledge acquired is applied to the case study ,Martins Sarmento House, an emblematic and remarkable building in the historical center of the city of Guimarães, built around the XVIII century. In 1975, it suffered a fire which started in the upper part of the building, destroying the roof and making it uncharacteristic. The dissertation presents the whole process of uncovering this roof, from its geometry to its wooden structure, the coating, its water drainage and ventilation system, among others. This analysis is based on the recognition and survey of the marks discovered on site. The project proposes the demolition of the existing roof and the construction of a new roof in wood structure, which, despite being based on traditional forms and materials, uses current elements and construction systems, giving the roof greater acoustic, thermal and energy efficiency. Finally, the research developed here also seeks to enhance the use of wood as a building material, which, despite having been devalued over the years, is a material with renewed potential, which has positioned itself as a material of the future.
