Práticas de tradução e adaptação cultural: experiência profissional na Câmara Municipal de Braga

Abstract

O presente relatório tem como objetivo descrever o trabalho realizado durante o estágio curricular para conclusão do Mestrado em Tradução e Comunicação Multilingue (MTCM) na Universidade do Minho. Este estágio foi realizado na Divisão da Cultura da Câmara Municipal de Braga durante 15 semanas, entre os dias 5 de fevereiro e 21 de maio de 2019. O estágio curricular é um marco fundamental para colocar em prática todos os conhecimentos adquiridos ao longo do curso do mestrado e consolidá-los num ambiente profissional. O estágio consistiu na tradução, de português para inglês e russo, de vários materiais destinados à promoção de eventos culturais organizados e realizados pela Câmara Municipal de Braga, tanto através dos sites institucionais da CMB como em material impresso. Foi o meu pequeno contributo para facultar informação multilingue e suporte aos visitantes da cidade de Braga no âmbito de iniciativas de desenvolvimento turístico apoiadas pela Câmara Municipal. Do ponto de vista prático, para além da própria tradução, foi criada uma base terminológica multilingue que pudesse ser utilizada em futuros projetos de tradução e, assim, assegurar a coerência dos textos produzidos pela/para a Câmara. Foi também elaborada uma proposta de um breve guia de estilo que permite fornecer orientações linguísticas, podendo ser utilizado como referência para futuras encomendas de tradução pela Câmara. Em termo de análise prática do trabalho, uma atenção especial foi prestada aos problemas de tradução de nomes próprios e de referências culturais (também conhecidas como realia) em contexto da divulgação de materiais de cariz histórico-cultural.

This report aims to describe the work performed during the curricular internship for the conclusion of the Master’s Degree in Translation and Multilingual Communication (MTCM) at the University of Minho. This internship was held during 15 weeks, from February 5 till May 21, 2019, in the Department of Culture of Braga City Council. The internship is a fundamental milestone aimed at putting into practice all the knowledge acquired during the master’s course and at consolidating it in a professional environment. The internship consisted of the translation, from Portuguese to English and Russian, of various promotional materials for cultural events organized and held by the Braga City Council. These materials have been used on City Council’s institutional websites and in handouts for tourists. It allowed for contribution into improved provisioning of tourist information and multilingual support for English-speaking and Russian-speaking visitors to Braga within the scope of tourist development initiatives embraced by the City Council. From the practical point of view, along with translation there was created a specialized multilingual terminological database. It can be used in forthcoming translation projects and thus ensure consistency of texts produced by or for the City Council. A draft of a brief style guide has also been prepared to provide language guidance and reference for future translation ordered by the City Council. In terms of practical analysis of the work, special attention has been paid to challenges in translating proper names and cultural references (also known as realia) in text of historical-cultural nature.

Целью настоящего отчёта является описание работ, выполненных в рамках стажировки по окончании курса магистратуры по переводу и многоязычной коммуникации в университете Минью. Стажировка проходила в течение 15 недель, с 5 февраля по 21 мая 2019 года, в Отделе культуры мэрии города Брага. Академическая стажировка завершает программу курса магистратуры и призвана закрепить полученные в ходе обучения знания, применить и усовершенствовать их на практике. В ходе стажировки были выполнены переводы различных материалов, подготовленных мэрией Браги для продвижения культурных мероприятий, проводимых в городе. Переводы выполнены с португальского на английский и русский языки. В рамках инициатив мэрии по развитию туризма удалось улучшить представление информации о достопримечательностях города для англоговорящих и русскоговорящих туристов на тематическом веб-сайте. С практической точки зрения, кроме собственно переводов, была также создана многоязычная терминологическая база, которая может быть использована в будущих проектах и позволит обеспечить терминологическую консистентность и повысить общее качество переводов. Кроме того, было сформулировано предложение по созданию краткого руководства по стилю, которое может быть использовано в качестве справочного материала переводчиками, работающими над проектами мэрии. Особое внимание в рамках практического анализа было уделено проблемам перевода имён собственных и культурных реалий, а также способам их решения в историко-культурном контексте с учётом специфики туристических текстов.
