Avaliação da geodiversidade de Portugal Continental

Abstract

Esta dissertação tem como principal temática a geodiversidade de Portugal Continental, tendo como principal objetivo a sua avaliação e as relações que estabelece com outras temáticas, nomeadamente os recursos geológicos, a biodiversidade e as áreas protegidas. Tendo em conta as metodologias utilizadas em outros trabalhos, foi proposta uma avaliação da geodiversidade através de uma avaliação dos índices litológicos, geomorfológicos e pedológicos de Portugal Continental, em que foi tido em conta o número de diferentes ocorrências existentes em cada célula da grelha 25 x 25 km utilizada, tendo-se observado três locais com valores elevados de geodiversidade. Além do índice de geodiversidade foi feita uma avaliação quantitativa dos recursos minerais e os recursos hídricos existentes no território nacional, e ainda uma avaliação da distribuição do património geológico e de uma parte da biodiversidade existente em Portugal Continental, tendo em conta os dados disponíveis. Estes mapas foram depois todos correlacionados tendo-se observado diversas relações entre os diferentes índices, com especial interesse as relações entre a geodiversidade e a biodiversidade e a geodiversidade e as áreas protegidas. Pretende-se que os resultados obtidos nesta dissertação possam ser úteis na gestão territorial nacional, no uso e gestão dos recursos naturais e ainda na criação de estratégias de conservação da natureza, que atribuam maior valor à geodiversidade.

This dissertation has as main theme the geodiversity of mainland Portugal, having as the main objective its assessment and the relations it establishes with other themes, namely geological resources, biodiversity and protected areas. Taking into account the methodologies used in other studies, an assessment of geodiversity was proposed through an assessment of the lithological, geomorphological and pedological indices of mainland Portugal. The number of different occurrences existing in each cell of a 25 x 25 km grid was taken into account, having observed three sites with high values of geodiversity. In addition to the geodiversity index, was carried out a quantitative assessment of mineral and water resources, distribution of the geoheritage and a portion of the biodiversity in mainland Portugal, considering the available data. Different maps were produced with the referred data. These maps were then all correlated, and several relationships were observed between the different indices, with special interest in the relationships between geodiversity and biodiversity and geodiversity and protected areas. It is intended that the outcome obtained in this dissertation can be useful in the national territorial management, in the use and management of natural resources and also in the creation of nature conservation strategies, that consider greater value to geodiversity.
