The discrimination of people with intellectual difficulties, promoted by inequality of opportunity, is often translated into social and digital exclusion and, in this context, public policies give society the duty to guarantee conditions of access to ICT, skills, basic skills and their application in the daily lives of these people. This research aims to study the contribution of the use of videoconferencing to the communication of adults with intellectual difficulties integrated in a Center for Occupational Activities. To this end, we intend to: identify the knowledge that these adults, with intellectual difficulty, have about videoconferencing; to know the skills that are developed in these adults with the practice of videoconferencing; analyze interactions between adults with intellectual difficulty and understand how they can benefit from videoconferencing in their daily life. To develop this study, a qualitative methodology was used, namely the case study. The participants were four adults with intellectual disability. Data collection was done through a collective press conference of the focus group type and participant observation using field notes. Thematic analysis was used for data analysis. As results we identified some technical and social knowledge that adults with intellectual difficulty have about videoconferencing, we recognize a set of competencies promoted by the project and conclude that there was evolution in the interactions established at the level of participation, conversation and also in behaviour. We also found that videoconferencing provided greater autonomy, interest, motivation and allows these adults to maintain personal relationships with people they know and build new relationships. We conclude, therefore, that videoconferencing, a widely used means of electronic communication, has now proved to be a facilitator of the integration and inclusion of people with intellectual difficulties. |
