No entanto, muitas crianças
O 3º e 4º anos do 1º Ciclo do
A amostra integrou 232 alunos (109 do género
feminino e 123 do género masculino) do 3º e 4º anos do Ensino Básico.
The 1st cycle of basic school is a crucial phase for students learning, in terms of academic skills. The primary competencies defined for the success of these learnings are the students, developmental level, at the cognitive, emotional, social and communicative level. All of these skills derive from experiences in the first years of life, from interactions with adults and peers and from the success of their communications. Thus, there is a close relationship between communication, as a basic and basic competence for the global development of children, and school success. However, many children show difficulties in school performance, due to communicative difficulties. For this reason, it is important to assess the communication skills, so that an effective and timely intervention to the needs of students is implemented. The 3rd and 4th years of the 1st Cycle of Basic Education gain relevance in solving these communicative difficulties, because if they are not overcome in time they will tend to perpetuate and become more pronounced when students move to the 2nd Cycle of Basic Education, a more complex cycle communicative level. In this sense, this exploratory study analyses the results of the School Age Communication Scale (SACS) - Version for Teachers (Batista, Monteiro, Dias, Azevedo, & Cruz-Santos, 2019) which has three dimensions: Functional Communication, Social Communication and Academic Communication, each with eight items. The sample involved 232 students (109 females and 123 males) from the 3rd and 4th years of schooling in the 1st cycle of Basic Education in the North Region of Portugal. The results of this study indicate that there are significantly statistical differences in relation to the variable: i) gender in 16 of the 24 items on the scale; ii) mothers' academic qualifications in 22 of the 24 items on the scale; iv) academic qualifications of parents in 16 of the 24 items on the scale; v) school performance, in the subjects of Portuguese language and Mathematics, in relation to the 24 items that make up the scale, verifying an influence of these variables on the students. In order to analyze the reliability of the scale, Cronbach's Alpha was applied, which presented a value of .96. According to Field (2005) it is concluded that the items on the scale indicate a very good reliability, reason why it can be considered the valid instrument for the screening of communicative difficulties of school age students. This study shows and reinforces the importance of using the screening instrument at the national level, so that it can contribute as an instrument for screening, identifying and monitoring students in an educational context, who attend the 1st Cycle of Basic Education. |
