Perceção dos residentes face ao turismo no munícipio de Arcos de Valdevez

Abstract

O turismo tem crescido de forma quase contínua nas últimas décadas, foi interrompido com o surgimento do vírus SARS-CoV-2. Ainda assim acreditamos que a atividade poderá, nos próximos anos reerguer-se e encontrar novas soluções atrativas para os potenciais turistas. Não obstante, urge o desenvolvimento de um turismo sustentável e que inclua todos os stakholders, estando entre eles os residentes. Em Portugal a auscultação dos residentes e a sua inclusão nas políticas públicas ligadas ao turismo ainda não é uma realidade. Todavia, é cada vez mais importante aferir a sua perceção em relação a esta atividade, visto que são uma parte fundamental no destino turístico. O turismo no município de Arcos de Valdevez tem vindo a ganhar cada vez mais destaque, não existindo estudos sobre a perceção dos seus residentes. Sendo assim, considerámos pertinente realizar um estudo que permita entender as perceções dos residentes em relação ao turismo. É importante compreender qual é a visão dos habitantes no que diz respeito aos impactes positivos e negativos da atividade sendo este o objetivo principal do presente estudo. De modo a conseguirmos responder a este objetivo, foram realizados 214 inquéritos por questionário aos residentes do município selecionado, constituindo a principal fonte primária usada. Os principais resultados demonstraram que os residentes de Arcos de Valdevez percecionam os benefícios que a atividade acarreta para o município principalmente a nível económico. Em contrapartida revelaram algumas preocupações com o desenvolvimento do turismo em relação ao ambiente. Esta preocupação surge pelo facto de o turismo predominante no município ser o turismo rural e o turismo de natureza. Por último, importa destacar os resultados obtidos resultantes da análise de cluster, onde conseguimos distinguir três perfis diferentes relacionados com o turismo no município: os céticos, os otimistas (que representou 71% dos inquiridos) e os indiferentes indo de encontro aos resultados encontrados noutros estudos. Esperamos que este estudo possa servir de auxílio no planeamento e gestão do município podendo ser útil para administradores públicos e privados.

Tourism has been steadily growing for the last decades, now halted by the circumstances of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. We still believe that in the coming years, tourism activity can rise again and find new attractive solutions for potential tourists. Nevertheless, development of sustainable tourism that includes all stakeholders, among them the residents, is paramount. In Portugal, resident’s opinion is not evaluated and their inclusion in public policies related to tourism is not yet a reality. However, it is increasingly important to assess their perception regarding these activities, as they are a key part of the tourist destination. Tourism in the municipality of Arcos de Valdevez has been gaining prominence, and there are no studies on the perception of the residents. Therefore, we considered appropriate to carry out a study that allows us to understand the perceptions of the residents in relation to tourism. It is important to understand what views the inhabitants hold regarding the positive and negative impacts of the activity, being this the main objective of the present study. In order to meet this objective, 214 surveys were conducted, using questionnaires targeting residents of the selected municipality, which constituted the main source used. The main results showed that the residents of Arcos de Valdevez perceive the benefits that the activity brings to the municipality, mainly at the economic level. On the other hand, the residents revealed concerns about the development of tourism regarding environmental impact. This concern arises from the fact that the predominant tourism in the municipality is rural tourism and nature tourism. Finally, it is important to highlight the results obtained from cluster analysis, where we were able to distinguish three different profiles related to tourism in the municipality: skeptics, optimists (which represented 71% of respondents) and indifferent ones, similar to the results found in other studies. We hope that this study can aid the planning and management of the municipality and be useful for public and private administrators.
