A poética narrativa cinematográfica e a representação da família nos filmes da Walt Disney Pictures, da animação para o live-action

Abstract

Contar histórias é intrínseco à natureza e ao desenvolvimento dos seres humanos, constantemente a evoluírem os processos comunicativos e narrativos disponíveis. Histórias consagradas em animação pela Walt Disney Pictures são transpostas e expandidas para filmes em live-action com o aporte de imagens geradas por computador (CGI) ao comporem uma recente vertente cinematográfica do estúdio, com a finalidade de manter-se no imaginário sociocultural do público e proporcionar novos proveitos financeiros. Foi a partir de possibilidades tecnológicas atualizadas com aproximações fotorrealistas e verossimilhantes que o universo fantasioso da Walt Disney encontrou espaço para recontar suas narrativas, emergente tanto para o público jovem quanto para o nostálgico adulto. Estudá-lo é atribuir relevância à contribuição para o campo do entretenimento, valorizar suas nuances e possibilidades de comunicação com seu espectador. É nas variações das histórias que problematizamos a constituição da poética narrativa cinematográfica do estúdio e centralizamos nossos objetivos investigativos, pois constatamos empiricamente que a transformação principal entre os filmes reside na representação de personagens da família nuclear das protagonistas: enquanto a animação as exclui, o live-action contextualiza quem são ou justifica suas ausências. A pesquisa aborda a evolução e a poética narrativa das histórias da Walt Disney que incitam a expansão do universo ficcional, ao enfatizar renovações culturais e atributos dos meios animação e live-action. Para compreender a inserção das personagens familiares, apresentamos uma contextualização sociocultural, as motivações narrativas que corroboraram para o desmembramento da história junto à perda dos progenitores e, também, contemplamos as funções maternas e paternas na representação fílmica da Walt Disney Pictures. O corpus do estudo foi escolhido intencionalmente ao totalizar dez longas-metragens: animações produzidas entre as décadas de 1950 e 1990 e os filmes em live-action produzidos na década de 2010. Constatamos que a poética cinematográfica dos filmes em live-action da Walt Disney ressalta as peculiaridades das personagens principais, que apesar de terem perfis similares na animação, se fundamentam nos atributos da família. O impulsionamento narrativo advém pela tragédia familiar que coloca as protagonistas em situações inesperadas, de descoberta pessoal e aventuras inevitáveis à trajetória de um(a) jovem adolescente em período de experimentação e crescimento.

Storytelling is intrinsic to the nature and development of human beings, constantly evolving the communicative and narrative processes available. Walt Disney Pictures acclaimed animated stories are transposed and expanded to live-action movies with the addition of computer-generated imagery (CGI) as they compose a recent cinematographic segment of the studio, with the purpose of remaining in the sociocultural imagination of the audience and provide new financial income. It was from updated technological possibilities with photorealistic and believable approximations that Walt Disney’s imaginative universe found place to retell its narratives, emerging for both the young audience and the nostalgic adults. To study it is to attribute relevance to the contribution to the entertainment field, to value its nuances and communication possibilities with its viewer. It is in the stories variations that we problematize the constitution of the studio’s narrative poetics of cinema and centralize our research objectives, since we empirically found that the main transformation between the movies lies in the representation of characters from nuclear family of the protagonists: while animation excludes them, live-action contextualizes who they are or justifies their absence. The research addresses the evolution and narrative poetics of Walt Disney stories that foster the expansion of its fictional universe by emphasizing cultural renewals and the attributes of animation and live-action. In order to understand the insertion of family characters, we present a socio-cultural contextualization, the narrative motivations that corroborated the dismemberment of the story along with the loss of parents, and we also contemplate the maternal and paternal functions in filmic representation of Walt Disney Pictures. The corpus of the study was intentionally chosen by totaling ten feature films: animations produced between the 1950s and 1990s and live-action movies produced in the 2010s. We found that the poetics of cinema of Walt Disney’s liveaction movies emphasizes the peculiarities of the main characters, who despite having similar profiles in animation, are grounded in family attributes. The narrative boost comes from the family tragedy that puts the protagonists in unexpected situations, of personal discovery and inevitable adventures to the path of a young adolescent in a period of experimentation and growth.
