Estudo da evolução da estrutura urbana da região Norte de Portugal recorrendo à análise espacial

Abstract

O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar uma análise espacial que visa efetuar a caracterização da estrutura urbana da região Norte de Portugal, tendo por base os dados dos Censos de 1991, 2001 e 2011. Este tema e a metodologia proposta são pertinentes e atuais, face ao crescimento das zonas urbanas a nível internacional e à importância na respetiva caracterização, tendo em vista melhorar os modelos de governação e de definição estratégica para o desenvolvimento dos territórios. A modelação proposta explora duas subáreas da Análise Espacial: a Estatística Espacial e a Modelação Espacial. Serão adotadas ferramentas de Estatística Espacial para identificar as características locais da estrutura urbana da região, que depois de combinadas com a utilização de uma Rede Neural permitem construir um modelo de previsão para a Modelação Espacial. A análise implementada, recorre a ferramentas de Exploratory Spatial Data Analyses, dados dos censos e previsão de evolução populacional apresentada pelo Instituto Nacional de Estatística, permitindo um reconhecimento de agrupamentos de zonas urbanas com características semelhantes e a sua articulação a nível regional no Norte de Portugal. O presente estudo mostra-nos que existe uma região Norte de Portugal Continental pouco uniforme, uma zona litoral dinâmica em termos de densidade populacional, com zonas densamente povoadas, em contraste com um Alto Minho e um interior com muito menor concentração demográfica.

The objective of this work is to present a Spatial Analysis that aims to characterize the urban structure of the northern region of Portugal based on censuses data from 1991, 2001 and 2011. This theme and the proposed methodology are pertinent and actual topics for the characterization of the growth and consolidation of urban areas at international level. That will be helpful to improve the models of governance and strategic definition for the development of the territories. The proposed model explores two fields of Spatial Analysis: The Spatial Statistics and the Spatial Modelling. Spatial Statistics tools will be used to identify the local characteristics of the urban structure of the region which will then be combined with a Neural Network in order to build a predictive model for the spatial modelling. The analysis was conducted using Geographic Information Systems which uses Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis (censuses data and forecast of population growth published by the National Institute of Statistics) allowing the recognition of groupings of urban areas with similar characteristics and their articulation at regional level at the North of Portugal. The present study shows that there is a relatively uniform North Portugal region, a dynamic coastal zone in terms of population density, with densely populated areas, in contrast to a Alto Minho and an interior with much lower demographic concentration.
