A luta política pelo controlo da repartição da carne e do peixe em Braga nos séculos XIV e XV

Abstract

É objectivo deste trabalho analisar de que forma a luta pelo controlo da repartição da carne e do peixe em Braga, nos séculos XIV e XV, se transformou numa questão política, tributária da conjuntura do seu tempo, protagonizada por actores políticos cujo objectivo era a afirmação e legitimação do seu estatuto de poder, não só perante a cidade, mas também perante o rei. Referimo-nos ao Cabido e ao concelho de Braga, que num tempo muito longo, com avanços e recuos se confrontaram e enfrentaram em torno da questão da carne e do peixe. Tentaremos, à luz de alguns exemplos que traremos aqui, descortinar e compreender o motu por detrás dos graves e violentos conflitos que opuseram estes dois importantes grupos de poder: o cabido da Sé, e o concelho da cidade, e que iam muito para além do saciamento do corpo em matérias alimentares.

The aim of this study is to analyze how the fight for the control of the meat and fish supply in Braga (Portugal) in the 14th and 15th century as become a political matter profoundly related to a more wide political scenario, in a larger scale (kingdom of Portugal). The aim of the protagonists of this political fight was the affirmation and legitimation of their power status, not only in the city, before the elites, but also before the King. These, the Town Chapter, and the Town Council, fought for the control of the process of supply and distribution of the meat and fish, sometimes with great violence, not only in words, but also with actions. In the following pages we are going to try to understand the whys, the motu underlying those actions, and the significance for the city of Braga
