Discussão do impacto económico dos jogos de futebol profissional nas NUTS II de Portugal

Abstract

Este projeto procura perceber se existe um impacto económico do desporto na economia regional, centrando-se em Portugal. O principal objetivo é perceber se a presença de um clube de futebol profissional de futebol numa região traz benefícios económicos à mesma. Para avaliar a existência deste impacto, foram analisadas as 7 NUTS II de Portugal desde 2007 até 2017. Como indicadores para avaliar este impacto económico, selecionou-se como indicadores o PIB, a taxa de desemprego e o turismo. O objetivo foi de perceber se os valores estimados, para estes 3 indicadores, tinham um comportamento distinto para as regiões que tinham mais clubes de futebol a participar em grandes competições, daquelas regiões que têm poucos ou nenhuns tantos clubes a participar em grandes competições. Os resultados mostraram que a presença de um clube futebol profissional de futebol numa região não influência o PIB e a Taxa de Desemprego. Por sua vez, o turismo beneficia da presença de um clube futebol profissional de futebol numa região.

This project seeks to understand whether there is an economic impact of sport on the regional economy, focusing on Portugal. The main objective is to understand whether the presence of a professional football club in a region brings economic benefits to it. To assess the existence of this impact, the 7 NUTS II of Portugal from 2007 to 2017 were analyzed. As indicators to assess this economic impact, GDP, unemployment and tourism were selected as indicators. The objective was to understand whether the estimated values, for these 3 indicators, had a distinct behavior for the regions that had more football clubs participating in major competitions, from those regions that have few or no clubs participating in major competitions. The results showed that the presence of a professional football club in a region does not influence GDP and the unemployment rate. Tourism in turn benefits from the presence of a professional football club in a region.
