Monetário Internacional a ganhar maior credibilidade e status.
americana à realidade do Sistema Internacional.
do dólar americano.
The Bretton Woods System brought many changes to the monetary system, mainly the creation of the Special Drawing Rights. Initially the Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) functioned as a complement to the American dollar and gold, but after the Nixon Shock everyone expected that all the monetary situation would change (the asset would gain more credibility and status). We can say that SDRs appeared as an interesting option as the primary option in the international monetary structure, however this asset was shadowed by the important and strong role of dollar in the international trade/system. With the 2008 financial crisis, this asset earned visibility when certain authors discussed the possibility of transaction of the dollar hegemony to the Special Drawing Rights, given that they blamed the US and its currency for the outbreak of this crisis. In this dissertation we study the SDR as the IMF basket currency and the impact of its adjustments on the US dollar exchange rate. Based on the application of various econometric models that use the US dollar exchange rate against other international currencies, we can conclude that certain basket currencies adjustments cause volatility in the dollar exchange rate. |
