Vestir, seduzir e significar: da dimensão simbólica da moda ao imaginário erótico contemporâneo

Abstract

Fenómeno social e cultural relativamente recente, a moda é hoje a manifestação de um certo imaginário erótico que parece organizar a vida coletiva. Ela governa, segundo Lipovetsky, as nossas sociedades. Efémera, por natureza, a moda exprime, na verdade, a soberania das aparências e o poder da fantasia estética. Ela é, com efeito, a representação mais significativa do triunfo da sedução e do espetáculo. É por isso que a moda é, de algum modo, uma via de compreensão do social. Pensando-a, portanto, como engrenagem, por um lado, e como sinal, por outro, do nosso tempo, procuramos neste ensaio explorar de que forma ela é o prenúncio de uma socialidade assente no lado sensitivo, efervescente e instável das nossas relações intersubjetivas uns com os outros e da nossa relação ao mundo e às coisas.

As a relatively recent social and cultural phenomenon, fashion currently embodies a certain erotic imagery that seems to organise collective life. According to Lipovetsky, it governs our societies. Fashion, being ephemeral by nature, actually expresses the sovereignty of appearance and the power of aesthetic fantasy. It is, in fact, the most significant representation of the triumph of seduction and spectacle. Consequently, fashion is, somehow, a way of understanding the social. This essay builds upon the reasoning of fashion as a mechanism, on the one hand, and as a sign of our times, on the other, to explore how it is the harbinger of a sociality based on the sensitive, unstable and effervescent side of our interpersonal relations with each other and our relationship with the world and things.
