Tradução, localização e internacionalização do Website do Departamento de Produção e Sistemas da Escola de Engenharia da Universidade do Minho

Abstract

O presente relatório de estágio foi realizado no âmbito do Mestrado em Tradução e Comunicação Multilingue. O estágio curricular teve a duração de quatro meses e surgiu da necessidade do DPS (Departamento de Produção e Sistemas), da Escola de Engenharia da Universidade do Minho, atualizar e internacionalizar o seu Website. Ao longo do presente relatório abordo a temática da globalização e o seu impacto na internacionalização, localização e tradução, relacionando com a gestão terminológica, gestão de projetos de tradução e inglês como língua franca. Abordo também a componente tecnológica ligada ao processo GILT e as suas vantagens. Na secção dedicada ao estágio apresento a entidade acolhedora e descrevo o decorrer deste. De seguida, está a discussão do trabalho com a tecnologia e recursos utilizados e a metodologia, assim como a tipologia dos problemas encontrados e as estratégias adotadas para a sua resolução. Apresento também uma proposta de tipologia, de acordo com a perspetiva funcionalista, Skopos e translation brief. Termino o relatório apresentando as principais conclusões que surgiram da realização deste projeto, nomeadamente, o papel fundamental do trabalho do tradutor com especialistas da área e o papel da terminologia como motor da consistência textual.

The present report was developed within the scope of the Master in Translation and Multilingual Communication. The curricular internship had the duration of four months and arose from the need of DPS (Department of Production and Systems), of the School of Engineering of University of Minho, updating and internationalising their Website. Throughout the present report, I address the subject of globalisation and its impact on internationalization, localisation and translation, connecting it to terminological management, translation projects management and English as a lingua franca. I also approach the terminological component connected to the GILT process and its advantages. On the section devoted to the internship, I present the entity where it took place and its overview. Next, it is the discussion of the developed work with the technology and resources used and the methodology, as well as the typology of the problems found and the strategies chosen to solve them. I also present a proposal of typology, in accordance with the functionalist approach, Skopos and translation brief. I end the report presenting the main conclusions that emerged from this project, namely, the key role of the work of the translator with experts from the area and the paper of terminology as the motor of textual consistency.
