Desenvolvimento e aplicação da Prova de Nomeação de Vocábulos Específicos das Ciências (PNVEC) em crianças em idades precoces: um estudo exploratório num agrupamento de escolas de Braga

Abstract

As Orientações Curriculares para a Educação Pré-Escolar (OCEPE, 2016), nomeadamente na Área do Conhecimento do Mundo, preconizam a necessidade de uma correta utilização do vocabulário específico das ciências, para promover as aprendizagens nesta área de conteúdo. O presente estudo tem como finalidade analisar a nomeação de vocábulos específicos das ciências, em crianças em idades precoces. A amostra é constituída por 167 crianças, com e sem necessidades educativas especiais, com idades compreendidas entre os 3 e os 6 anos, incluídas em nove salas de sete jardins-deinfância, da rede escolar pública, num agrupamento de escolas do Distrito de Braga. O instrumento de recolha de dados deste estudo consiste numa prova constituída por trinta itens, a – PNVEC – que foi desenvolvida para este estudo. Os resultados obtidos neste estudo permitem concluir que: a) verifica-se um aumento progressivo no desempenho do vocabulário de acordo com a faixa etária: as crianças com 3 anos obtiveram uma percentagem de acertos de 27% e as de 4 anos de 38%, as crianças com 5 anos de 53% e as de 6 anos de 64%; b) verifica-se um aumento progressivo no desempenho do vocabulário específico das ciências de acordo com o aumento do nível das habilitações académicas do pai e da mãe; c) verifica-se que os rapazes demonstram ter um desempenho na prova análogo ao das raparigas; d) verifica-se que a sala do JI que obteve melhores resultados atingiu uma percentagem de acertos de 70%, enquanto a sala que obteve menor percentagem de acertos obteve uma percentagem de 40%; e) Verifica-se que, das nove salas dos JI participantes no estudo, apenas três apresentaram na prova uma percentagem de acertos igual ou superior a 50%; f) verifica-se que apenas 48% dos 30 vocábulos são nomeados pelas crianças; g) a prova de vocabulário – PNVEC - apresenta bons níveis de consistência interna (α=.886), através de resultados obtidos pelo Alpha de Cronbach, e revela ter potencialidades como instrumento de avaliação do vocabulário específico das ciências. Esta prova assume um carater relevante e pertinente pelo fato de contribuir para a identificação de vocábulos específicos que devem ser adquiridos em idades precoces, de forma a existir, atempadamente, uma intervenção precoce eficaz.

The Curricular Guidelines for Pre-School Education (OCEPE, 2016), namely in the World Knowledge Area, advocate the need for a correct use of the specific vocabulary of the sciences of vocabulary, to promote learning in this area of content. The present study aims to analyze the naming of specific words in the sciences, in children at early ages. The sample consists of 167 children, with and without special educational needs, aged between 3 and 6 years, included in nine rooms of seven kindergartens, of the public school network, in a group of schools in the District of Braga. The data collection instrument of this study consists of a thirty - item test, the – PNVEC - that was developed for this study. The results obtained in this study allow to conclude that: a) there is a progressive increase in vocabulary performance according to the age group: 3-year-old scored 27% and the 4-year-old 38% the 5-year-old 53% and the 6-year-old 64%; b) there is a progressive increase in the performance of the specific vocabulary of the sciences according to the increase in the level of the academic qualifications of the father and the mother; (c) it is found that boys demonstrate a similar test performance to that of girls; d) it was found that the kindergarten classroom that obtained the best results reached a percentage of correctness of 70%, while the room that obtained the lowest percentage of results obtained a percentage of 40%; e) It appears that out of the nine rooms of the JI participating in the study, only three of them presented a percentage of hits equal to or greater than 50%; (f) it is noted that only 48% of 30 words are named by children; f) The vocabulary test - PNVEC - presents good levels of internal consistency (α = .886), through results obtained by Cronbach's Alpha, and reveals potentialities as an instrument for the assessment of the specific vocabulary of the sciences. This evidence assumes a relevant character because it contributes to the identification of specific words that must be acquired at an early age, in order to exist an effective early intervention.
