A educação como resposta social: uma experiência de internacionalização em Timor-Leste

Abstract

Diante da complexa e dinâmica conjuntura mundial atual, nem o setor público nem o privado conseguem dar uma resposta completa às necessidades das populações mais vulneráveis. Evidencia-se, assim, a importância do contributo da Economia Social como uma realidade que se tem vindo a afirmar nas sociedades com crescente destaque económico, político e social, sendo vista por diversos autores e entidades como um dos pilares de um novo modelo económico sustentável. Esta investigação pretende contribuir para a Economia Social como uma forma de se "internacionalizar valores", sobretudo educacionais, procurando elucidar os desafios para a introdução de ações sociais de ensino assistencial num ambiente diverso de multiplicidade cultural, política e económica. O trabalho empírico incide sobre a ação social da “Congregação das Escravas da Santíssima Eucaristia e da Mãe de Deus” em Timor-Leste. A metodologia utilizada consistiu numa pesquisa qualitativa e quantitativa. Os dados primários foram obtidos por intermédio de entrevistas e questionários, aplicados a religiosas voluntárias da Congregação e a timorenses que estudam em Portugal. Os dados secundários foram obtidos em diversos relatórios internacionais e junto à sede da instituição religiosa, em Madrid - Espanha. Esta pesquisa evidencia a importância do papel da educação e das instituições sociais para o desenvolvimento económico, social e humano.

Faced with today's complex and dynamic global environment, neither the public nor the private sector can fully respond to the needs of the most vulnerable populations. It’s evident, therefore, the importance of the contribute of the Social Economy as a reality that has been affirmed in societies with growing economic, political and social prominence, is seen by several authors and entities as one of the pillars of a new sustainable economic model. This research intends to contribute to the Social Economy as a way to "internationalize values", especially educational ones, seeking to elucidate the challenges for the introduction of social actions of assistance teaching in a diverse environment of cultural, political and economic multiplicity. The empirical work focuses on the social action of the “Congregação das Escravas da Santíssima Eucaristia e da Mãe de Deus” in East Timor. The used methodology consisted on a qualitative and quantitative research. The primary data were obtained through interviews and questionnaires, applied to religious volunteers of the Congregation and to timorese who study in Portugal. The secondary data were obtained in several international reports and at the headquarters of the religious institution, in Madrid - Spain. This research highlights the importance of the role of the education and of the social institutions for economic, social and human development.
