Reúso do património do movimento moderno: a panificadora de Vila Real

Abstract

O património do Movimento Moderno encontra-se em constante degradação, sendo necessário encontrar as ferramentas adequadas que garantam a sua preservação e conservação. Esta tese visa assim a valorização do património moderno, através da procura dos princípios de intervenção e da aplicação dos mesmos a um objecto de estudo. Para o caso específico, e como resposta a uma motivação pessoal, foi escolhida a Panificadora de Vila Real. A Panificadora de Vila Real, construída em 1965, é da autoria do arquitecto e pintor Nadir Afonso. Trata-se de um edifício que apresenta características arquitectónicas bastante singulares, cuja linguagem está vinculada ao percurso arquitectónico de Nadir Afonso, reflectindo tanto os valores inerentes ao Movimento Moderno, como a propensão artística do autor. A Panificadora encontra-se actualmente num estado de degradação acentuado, justificando portanto uma intervenção arquitectónica que respeite e valorize o projecto original. Para além da análise bibliográfica acerca da temática da intervenção no Movimento Moderno e da realização de um estudo acerca do objecto arquitectónico, a metodologia projectual incide sobretudo no processo de redesenhar o edifício. O princípio elementar do projecto passa pela reinterpretação da preexistência, recorrendo ao levantamento e ao cruzamento do desenho das peças originais. Com a introdução de um novo uso programático tenta-se reintegrar o edifício na cidade, dinamizando desta forma o seu funcionamento. Nesse sentido, transformase o interior do edifício num espaço amplo e flexível, adaptado às exigências do novo programa. Em suma, a proposta de intervenção na Panificadora de Vila Real é a tradução prática de um conjunto de princípios teóricos que apontam para a valorização da materialidade e do desenho original, cujo propósito final assenta na preservação da autenticidade do edifício de Nadir Afonso.

The modern movement heritage is in constant deterioration, making it necessary to find the right tool in order to ensure its’ preservation and conservation. This thesis aims to value the Modern movement heritage by using the best intervention principles and applying them to a case study. In this investigation the case study: Bakery of Vila Real was chosen in response to a personal motivation. The architect and painter Nadir Afonso designed the bakery of Vila Real, built in 1965. A building that presents unique architectural features, where the formal language is directly linked to Nadir Afonso’s architectural path, reflecting both the values inherent to the Modern Movement and the authors artistic propensity. The bakery is currently in a state of severe degradation, thus justifying an architectural intervention that respects and values the original project. Besides the bibliographic review about the thematic of intervention in the Modern Movement and conducting a study of the architectural object, the project methodology focuses on the process of redesigning the building. The basic principle of the project involves the reinterpretation of the pre-existence, using the survey and the cross referencing with the design of the original parts. To reinstate the building in the city and create a dynamic function a new programmatic is introduced. Transforming the interior of the building into a large, flexible space, adapted to the demands of the new program. In short, the proposed intervention in the Bakery of Vila Real is the particle translation of a set of theoretical principles, related to the appreciation of materials and the original design, where the ultimate purpose is based on preserving the authenticity of Nadir Afonso’s building.
