Quando a luta pelos direitos sexuais se faz no feminino: um estudo de caso sobre o associativismo lésbico em Portugal

Abstract

A dissertação que se apresenta resulta de uma investigação sobre a participação associativa das lésbicas portuguesas, tendo em conta a identificação e análise dos fatores que estimularam e incentivaram o seu envolvimento em associações LGBT. O objetivo geral deste estudo foi o de descrever e analisar as trajetórias de vida e as experiências destas mulheres, assim como os fatores que subjazeram ao seu envolvimento no associativismo lésbico. Foram objetivos específicos dar conta do modo como se efetuou o seu envolvimento ativo no associativismo lésbico, das dificuldades por elas encontradas ao longo da sua experiência associativa e do papel que a participação associativa desempenha nas suas vidas quotidianas e pessoais. A metodologia possui um carácter eminentemente qualitativo, indutivo e exploratório. Nesta investigação, optou-se pela realização de um estudo qualitativo e pela adoção do método de estudo de casos, sendo o Clube Safo a unidade de análise, pelo facto de se tratar da primeira e única associação exclusivamente lésbica portuguesa, e as suas dirigentes o objeto empírico da investigação. Na tarefa de caracterização do Clube Safo, foi realizada uma recolha documental de alguns números do boletim bimestral Zona Livre, uma publicação da responsabilidade do Clube Safo. Os dados empíricos foram recolhidos através de entrevistas dirigidas às histórias de vida, tendo a análise do conteúdo das entrevistas sido realizada através de uma análise temática. Em termos genéricos, os resultados obtidos neste trabalho demonstraram a existência de uma trajetória-tipo, na qual o surgimento de uma experiência pessoal significante, que leva o indivíduo a reajustar as suas prioridades, se apresenta como um elemento catalisador fulcral para a entrada no associativismo de cariz lésbico. Confirmou-se o papel do trabalho no âmbito do associativismo como incrementador do sentimento de poder participar e do próprio empoderamento das ativistas, que apresentam melhorias ao nível do sentido crítico, aumento da tolerância social e política, e melhoria das virtudes cívicas, em geral.

The present dissertation is a result of an investigation on the participation of portuguese lesbians, considering the identification and analysis of the factors which stimulated and encouraged their involvement in LGBT associations. The overall aim of this study was to describe and analyse de trajectories of life and experiences of these women, as well as the factors underlying their engagement to lesbian associations. To understand how their active involvement in lesbian associations was done, what difficulties were found along this engaging experience and the role that this participation plays in their daily and personal lives were the specific purposes of this study. The methodology has an eminent qualitative, inductive and exploratory character. In this investigation it has been opted by the realization of a qualitative study by the adoption of the cases study’s method in which Clube Safo is the analysis unit, due to the fact that this is the first and only Portuguese association exclusively lesbian, and its leaders are the empirical object of the investigation. For the task of characterizing Clube safo, a documental collection was made of some numbers of the bimestrial Zona Livre, a publication of the responsibility of Clube Safo. The empirical data were collected through interviews directed to the life stories and the analysis of the content of these interviews was accomplished by a thematic analysis. In generic terms, the results obtained in this work show the existence of a trajectory-type, in which the emergence of a significant personal experience that takes the individual to readjust its priorities, presents itself as a central point catalyst element for the association, presents itself as a central point catalyst element for the association, presents itself as a central point catalyst element to the entrance in lesbian featured associations. It has been confirmed the role of the work related to the associations as a developer of the feeling of being able to participate and the own empowering of the activists who present enhancements at a critical sense level, increase of social and political tolerance, as well as of civic virtues in general.
