professores do grupo 510 e no outro participaram 120 alunos, 60 do ensino básico (EB) e 60 do ensino
Web 2.0 has transformed the Internet in a collaborative and interactive space, where it is possible to communicate and share knowledge. Web 2.0 offers the user a large variety of free tools that may promote the development of diverse kinds of learning and that enable cooperative experiences involving students and teachers. The goal of this piece of research is to uncover the representations of a group of Physical Sciences teachers and of a group of students about the use of web 2.0 in Physical Sciences classes. Questions focusing to what extent it was being used, as well as about the educational vantages and disadvantages of web 2.0, as a whole, and of some of its tools for science teaching purposes. Two studies were carried out in order to attain these objectives. One focused on a group of six Physical Sciences teachers and the other involves 120 students, being 60 of them junior high school students; the other 60 high were secondary school students. Students belonged to three different schools, located in Porto, Santo Tirso and Fafe. Data from teachers were collected by means of an interview while data from students were collected by means of a questionnaire. Results suggest that most of the teachers were already using ICT in their classes. However, they were not familiar with the Web 2.0 concept as well as with its tools, even though they stated that they use some of them bot h in the classroom and for doing private tasks. They stated that those tools may both foster positive teaching regulation and may promote teachers’ reflexion on their own practices. Students mentioned that they feel comfortable with computers as well as with web 2.0 tools, that they were already using them, both in their daily contexts and to carry out school tasks. They also stated that their teachers, including science teachers, use Web 2.0 tools. According to them, youtube and search engines are the most classroom used Web 2.0 tools. In addition, the findings suggest that there is not an agreement among participants with regard to the competencies and the literacies that may be developed through Web 2.0. Teachers explained the reduced use of Web 2-0 based on the ideas of lack of knowledge and tools in schools. The latter is due to lack or bad quality of computers and/or of internet in the classroom. However, they acknowledge the educational value of the Web 2-0 tools, namely for science teaching purposes, and they believe that school entered a new technological era that will not stop evolving. |
