A sociabilidade no Cine-Teatro Augusto Correia de Vila Nova de Famalicão (1962-1989)

Abstract

O nosso trabalho pretende estudar a relação entre a sociabilidade e as salas de cinema. O local escolhido para este estudo foi o Cine-Teatro Augusto Correia, de Vila Nova de Famalicão, no período que vai desde a sua inauguração, em 1962, até ao seu encerramento em 1989. O primeiro passo desta investigação foi tentar compreender o conceito de sociabilidade, uma vez que se trata de um conceito em construção e de rasgos interdisciplinares. Nesse sentido, confrontamos alguns trabalhos das ciências sociais e humanas, em particular no domínio da sociologia, com o método de investigação em história proposto por Maurice Agulhon. As diferentes perspetivas que aí encontramos permitiram-nos construir um plano de investigação interdisciplinar, resultando na divisão do nosso trabalho em dois segmentos. No primeiro segmento procuramos conhecer o modo como o Cine-Teatro Augusto Correia foi incorporado na trama da sociabilidade famalicense. O nosso propósito foi o de compreender os mecanismos de criação e desenvolvimento da sociabilidade no núcleo urbano de Vila Nova de Famalicão, onde se fixou o Cine- Teatro Augusto Correia, a fim de apurar se a existência do “hábito de sociabilidade” terá influído no aparecimento do Cine-Teatro. No segundo segmento desenvolvemos as questões relativas à construção, funcionamento e programação do Cine-Teatro Augusto Correia. Caraterizamos o público que frequentou aquele local e analisamos o modo como o Cine-Teatro foi fruído. O nosso objetivo foi comprovar se o Cine-Teatro Augusto Correia foi apenas uma casa de espetáculos ou se pretendeu ser também um espaço de sociabilidade.

The purpose of this work is to study the relation between sociability and movie theatres. Our case study is the Cine-Teatro Augusto Correia, a building used for movie projection and theatrical performance which has been founded in 1962 and closed in 1989, in Vila Nova de Famalicão. Since the sociability concept is recent and has interdisciplinary aspects, our first concern was to draw an investigation method to this study. Therefore, we have analysed other works of social and human sciences, particularly in the field of sociology and compared their investigation methods with Maurice’s Agulhon method used by history. After that we divided this work in two parts. In the first part we have tried to understand the way that the Cine-Teatro Augusto Correia was incorporated in the sociability environment of Vila Nova de Famalicão. Our aim was to understand the initial and advance process of sociability in the urban center of Vila Nova de Famalicão, where the Cine-Teatro Augusto Correia was built and find out if the existence of a “sociability habit” contributed to the appearance of this Movie-Theatre. In the second part we have learned about the construction, function and program of the Cine-Teatro Augusto Correia. We also studied the public and especially the way that people used to go and be in the Cine-Teatro Augusto Correia. Our goal was to verify if the Cine-Teatro Augusto Correia was just a building for shows and cinema, or if intended to be a sociability place as well.
