Intimidades masculinas: representações da intimidade

Abstract

O objeto teórico desta investigação são as representações que os homens têm das múltiplas expressões da intimidade, desde o amor, à paixão, às emoções, ao compromisso e à sexualidade. Tendo em conta os objetivos da investigação, o objeto empírico foi constituído por onze indivíduos exclusivamente do sexo masculino. Procurámos entender a relação entre masculinidades e intimidade; identificar as formas como os homens se posicionam face ao compromisso amoroso; e, por fim, identificar as representações dos homens acerca da sexualidade e a sua relação com a sua identidade de género. A metodologia adotada possui um cariz eminentemente qualitativo. O método de investigação foi o estudo de casos, socorrendo-nos das técnicas de entrevista semidirectiva, que permitiu aprofundar um conjunto diversificado de questões sobre a masculinidade e fazer uma recolha das representações que os homens têm das relações íntimas, e do questionário, que permitiu fazer a caracterização sociodemográfica dos entrevistados. As representações que os homens têm da masculinidade refletem influências da masculinidade hegemónica e do patriarcado. Essas influências são percetíveis nas suas representações dos papéis sociais dos homens e das mulheres na sociedade ocidental. Com base nessas representações e nos dados do questionário sociodemográfico, relacionámos os indivíduos com diferentes modelos de masculinidade. Posteriormente, esses modelos de masculinidade serviram de base à interpretação das suas representações da intimidade. Assim, concluímos que podemos estabelecer uma relação entre diferentes masculinidades e diferentes formas de expressão da intimidade, tendo em conta o facto de se poder encontrar variações.

The theoretical subject of this investigation is the representations that men have of the multiple expressions of intimacy, including love, passion, emotions, commitment and sexuality. Considering the goals of the research, the empirical object was constituted by eleven exclusively male individuals. We sought to understand the relationship between masculinity and intimacy; to identify the ways men position themselves regarding love and commitment; and finally, to identify the representations of men about sexuality and its relation to their gender identity. The methodology was predominantly qualitative. The research method was the case study. We used the semi-directive interview that allowed us to explore a diverse set of issues regarding masculinity and the representations that men had about intimate relations, and the questionnaire, to attain the sociodemographic characterization of the respondents. The representations that men have of masculinity reflect the influences of hegemonic masculinity and male patriarchy. These influences are noticeable in their representations of the social roles of men and women in Western society. Based on these representations and on data from the sociodemographic questionnaire, we were able to relate individuals with different forms of masculinity. Subsequently, these masculinities served as the basis for the interpretation of their representations of intimacy. We concluded that there is a relationship between different masculinities and different forms of expression of intimacy, considering the fact that we can find variations.
