O edifício doente: relação entre construção, saúde e bem-estar

Abstract

O edifício doente: relação entre arquitetura, saúde e bem-estar pretende ser apenas uma introdução geral às questões que afetam a saúde em relação à arquitetura que pode ser utilizada como um ponto de partida para posteriores aprofundamentos no seu estudo, pessoais ou, idealmente, de outros arquitetos. A dissertação começa com uma pequena introdução histórica, uma apresentação sobre a situação atual e uma reflexão sobre a falta de formação sobre estas questões no âmbito académico. Em seguida, entramos na análise de vários problemas de saúde resultantes do ambiente interno, tanto manifestados historicamente, devidos ao chumbo, o amianto e fume do tabaco, como às novas doenças ambientais, quais são as derivadas da síndrome do edifício doente, a fibromialgia, as hipersensibilidades química e eletromagnética, etc., também analisando cada um dos parâmetros que devem ser controlados para evitar tais doenças: a qualidade do ar interior, as radiações, a radioatividade, a luz, a cor, a humidade e a temperatura, com uma breve menção da chamada Geobiologia. Além dos parâmetros que afetam a saúde física, o trabalho atende também aqueles que podem influenciar o bem-estar e a saúde psicológica dos ocupantes, como a harmonia das formas, a luz, a cor, a sensação de segurança, a introdução de vegetação natural nos edifícios ou a integração destes no lugar, os quais influenciam positivamente as emoções e a saúde psicológica dos ocupantes e devem ser levados em conta se o que se busca é uma arquitetura física e mentalmente saudável.

The sick building: the relationship between architecture, health and well-being intends to be just a general introduction to the issues that affect health in relation to the architecture that can be used as a starting point for further deepenings in its study, personal or, ideally, by other architects. The paper starts with a short historical introduction, a presentation on the current situation and a reflection on the lack of training on these issues within academia. Then we walk in the analysis of various health problems resulting from internal environment, both historically manifested, due to lead, asbestos and tobacco smoke, as new environmental diseases, as are those derived from sick building syndrome, fibromyalgia, the electromagnetic and chemical sensitivities, etc. also considering each of the parameters that must be controlled to prevent these diseases: the quality of indoor air, radiations, radioactivity, light, color, moisture and temperature, with a short mention of the so called Geobiology. Besides the parameters that affect the physical health, the work also serves those that can influence the well-being and psychological health of the occupants, as the harmony of the forms, light, color, the sense of security, the introduction of natural vegetation in buildings or their integration in place, which positively influence the emotions and psychological health of the occupants and must be taken into account if what is sought is an architecture physically and mentally healthy.
