dc.description.abstract | The association between cerebral lesions and cognitive functioning has been addressed in several neurologic diseases. This study seeks to evaluate the association between the brain structural changes and the neurocognitive profile in two neurological diseases with different damage dimension- cerebral infarcts and Multiple Sclerosis. Specifically, it was assessed language, processing speed, executive function and visual-spatial memory, and neurostructural images in a group with cerebral infarcts (n = 13) and a group with MS (n = 8). It was found that in cerebral infarcts, higher scores on neuropsychological assessment are related to greater volume in right frontal lobe, right occipital lobe, right insula, white matter, gray matter and brain parenchyma (white matter and gray matter volume). In MS, there were not found correlations between cerebral volumes and the assessment’s scores. The age, regardless of diagnosis, was associated with the volumes of the left and right temporal lobes, right parietal lobe, white matter, gray matter, and brain parenchyma. When the age was controlled, the diagnosis was still related to the same volumes. | por |
