Perceções dos(as) psicoterapeutas sobre a influência dos estereótipos de género e das relações íntimas, heterossexuais e não-heterossexuais, nas vivências da disfunção erétil

Abstract

Esta dissertação constitui-se como um estudo exploratório e descritivo da perceção que os/as psicoterapeutas, com experiência de acompanhamento de casos de Disfunção Erétil, têm acerca do impacto que os estereótipos de género e o funcionamento das relações íntimas têm nas vivências desta disfunção. Para tal, realizaram-se entrevistas semiestruturadas a 9 psicoterapeutas (psicólogos/as e psiquiatras), de forma a compreender as suas visões sobre a vivência da Disfunção Erétil pelos homens que a experienciam, e pelas suas parceiras e/ou pelos seus parceiros. A análise temática destas entrevistas demonstrou a existência de 3 temas principais: “Parceiros/as dos homens com Disfunção Erétil”, “Estereótipos de género e a vivência da Disfunção Erétil” e “Relações ou indivíduos não-heterossexuais De um modo geral, os resultados corroboraram o que é encontrado na literatura, isto é, tanto os estereótipos de género como os/as parceiros/as dos homens com Disfunção Erétil desempenham um papel importante na vivência, desenvolvimento, manutenção e/ou tratamento desta disfunção – porém, ainda não é claro de que forma é que esta influência se procede. Contudo, esta dissertação contribui para o desenvolvimento desta área de estudos, pelo seu caráter exploratório, que permite encontrar novas experiências e vozes na vivência da Disfunção Erétil.

This dissertation is an exploratory and descriptive study of the perception that psychotherapists, with experience of cases of Erectile Dysfunction, have of the impact that gender stereotypes and intimate relationships can have in the living of this dysfunction. Semi-structured interviews were done to 9 psychotherapists (psychologist and psychiatrists), to understand their views on the way these men, with Erectile Dysfunction, and their partners (men and/or women), live. The thematic analysis of these interviews showed 3 main themes: “Partners of men with Erectile Dysfunction”, “Gender stereotypes and the living of Erectile Dysfunction”, and “Non-heterosexual relationships and individuals”. In general, the results found meet those found in the literature, which means that the gender stereotypes and the partners of the men with Erectile Dysfunction both influence the living, the development, the maintenance and/or the treatment of that dysfunction – although, the way this influence works is still not clear. This dissertation, however, contributes to the development of this field of studies, through its exploratory character, because it allows us to find new experiences and voices in the world of Erectile Dysfunction.
