O amor e o erotismo em David Mourão-Ferreira

Abstract

A presente dissertação tem por objetivo analisar a pertinência do Amor e do Erotismo na obra de David Mourão-Ferreira, visando também demonstrar que estes temas funcionam como isotopias quer na sua obra lírica quer na ficcional, revestindoas de grande coerência temática. Tentaremos ainda provar que a Mulher se mantém como eixo central em toda a obra davidiana, assumindo um papel dual, metaforizada em porta do paraíso e do inferno, em nascimento e morte, em totalidade e unicidade. Pretende-se destacar o papel atribuído à figura feminina, liberta da condição de submissão e de sujeição ao homem, estabelecendo, na poesia, um diálogo com o sujeito amado que envolve partilha e cumplicidade. Por outro lado, na ficção narrativa, tentaremos demonstrar que a mulher tem uma voz ativa assumindo o protagonismo na relação, ditando as regras e fazendo escolhas que submetem o homem à sua vontade, simultaneamente e contraditoriamente, assumindo papéis de anjo e deusa, terra e mar, sol e lua, água e fogo. Relativamente ao Amor, pretendemos assinalar o seu caráter fragmentário e a eterna busca da totalidade. Na obra de David Mourão-Ferreira o Amor é uma sucessão de instantes que incessantemente se renovam num jogo de espelhos refletindo os amantes desnudos, sem máscaras, num eterno jogo de ilusão. De igual modo, sob o signo de Eros o autor manipula com mestria, através da elegância da escrita e da linguagem clássica, a nudez feminina e a união dos corpos que descreve numa poética de sugestão capaz de fazer forte apelo à imaginação e à memória que articula e desarticula, apaga e recupera as vivências amorosas que se repetem ad eternum na incansável busca da felicidade. Neste trabalho tentaremos ainda evidenciar a peculiar dialética davidiana que corporiza e alicerça a obra em análise: realidade / sonho; ternura / espasmo; carícia / pudor; luz / sombra; vestir / despir; longe / perto. Finalmente, pretende-se demonstrar a originalidade e a singularidade da arte de David Mourão-Ferreira que, relativamente ao Amor e ao Erotismo, o tornam um escritor consagrado e um nome de referência incontornável no panorama literário português do século XX.

This dissertation aims to analyze the relevance of Love and Eroticism in David Mourão-Ferreira’s literary work, and to demonstrate that these themes act like isotopies either in his poetry or narrative writing, providing these with intense thematic coherence. We will still try to prove that the Woman is the central theme in Mourão- Ferreira’s work, assuming a dual role which is revealed by the metaphor of the door of heaven and paradise, birth and death, wholeness and uniqueness. We intend to highlight the role assigned to the female figure set free from the conditions of submission and obedience to man and establishing, in poetry, a dialogue with the beloved, involving sharing and complicity. Moreover, in narrative fiction, we will try to show that women have a leading role in relationships by establishing rules and making choices which submit men to their will, assuming, simultaneously and contrarily, the roles of angel and goddess, earth and sea, sun and moon, water and fire. We intend to emphasize Love’s fragmentary nature and the eternal human quest for wholeness. In David Mourão-Ferreira’s literary work, Love is a succession of moments that always renovate themselves in a game of mirrors reflecting naked lovers without masks, in an endless game of illusion. At the same time, under the sign of Eros, the author manipulates the female nudity and the union of the bodies with great skills, by means of the elegance of writing and classical language. These descriptions hold a poetical suggestion and a strong appeal to the imagination and the memory which articulate and dismantle, retrieve and delete love experiences in an eternal and tireless pursuit of happiness. This work will try to highlight Mourão-Ferreira’s peculiar dialectics: reality / dream; tenderness / spasm; caress /decency; light / shadow; dress / undress; far / near. Finally, we intend to show the uniqueness and the originality of David Mourão- Ferreira’s work, concerning Love and Eroticism, and by doing so, to display why he is a distinguished writer and a key author in the Portuguese literary panorama of the 20th century.
