Abstract

“A incompletude no cruzamento da arquitetura e do clothing” consiste num trabalho de investigação, que se concretiza sob a forma de ensaio. Situando-se numa linha de interpretação entre a arte e a arquitetura, o ensaio sintetiza, no título do trabalho, o pensamento-chave que corrobora a sua abordagem. A característica do tempo em foco, a incompletude, surge como tema global, a partir do qual se estabelece o enredo da investigação. Sendo transversal a todo o corpo de trabalho, a incompletude dá forma a um conceito que, manifestando-se sobre o meio físico, vem questionar a importância de incorporar o tempo num projeto, independentemente da sua escala. Encontrando-se sob diferentes formas e programas do meio habitável, a incompletude propõe uma reflexão sobre a passagem do tempo, tendo como mote uma concretização de carácter projetual. Desta forma, a incompletude estabelece a problemática da investigação, propondo o cruzar do clothing e da arquitetura. Através de um olhar de foro arquitetónico, o ensaio constrói uma narrativa que se debruça sobre o clothing, enquanto campo de estudo da investigação. O clothing, enquanto área de estudo, resulta de uma redefinição do termo, proposta pelo ensaio; o repensar do termo visa destacar um processo de criação presente na área do design de vestuário, que pretende a materialização de uma ideia que permanece. Assim, o clothing permite reunir um conjunto de artistas, que criam uma obra capaz de se adaptar à passagem do tempo, dando forma aos casos de estudo da incompletude. A abordagem da investigação, movida por um pensamento arquitetónico, propõe uma redefinição do termo clothing, consequência da sua reflexão sobre a disciplina do design de vestuário, e apresenta a noção de incompletude, enquanto um conceito temporal, transversal à arquitetura e ao clothing. Incidindo sobre uma disciplina, que não apenas a arquitetura, o ensaio desfaz os limites que o encerram a uma esfera de trabalho convencional, defendendo a pertinência de uma prática que se funde com outras disciplinas, como forma de incitar novos processos de trabalho e abordagens, num contexto projetual. O ensaio encontra-se assim, numa abordagem de foro arquitetónico que, através de um olhar específico (o da incompletude), pretende a construção de uma narrativa sobre um campo de estudo não convencional.

“Incompleteness in the crossing of architecture and clothing” consists of a research work that is materialized in the form of an essay. Standing in a line of interpretation between art and architecture, the essay synthetizes, on its title, the key thought corroborating its approach. The feature of time in focus, the incompleteness, emerges as main theme, from which the plot of the investigation is established. Being it transversal to the whole body of work, incompleteness shapes up a concept which, unfolding on the physical means, questions the relevance of including time on a given project, regardless of scale. Finding itself under several shapes and programs of the habitable environment, incompleteness proposes a reflexion on the passage of time, the motto being a realisation of projective nature. Thus, incompleteness establishes the research problematic, by proposing the crossing of clothing and architecture. Through an architectural point of view, the essay constructs a narrative that focuses on clothing as the field of study of the research. Clothing, whilst area of study, results of a redefinition of the term proposed by the essay; the rethinking of the term aims to highlight a creative process present in the area of garment design, which intends the materialization of an idea that remains. Therefore, clothing allows the reunion of a group of artists who create a piece of work capable of adaptation to the passage of time, giving shape to the case studies of incompleteness. The research’s approach, moved by an architectural thinking, proposes a redefinition of the term clothing, consequence of its reflexion about the discipline of garment design, and presents the notion of incompleteness as a temporal concept, transverse to architecture and to clothing. Focusing on a subject other than just architecture, the essay unravels the boundaries that enclose it to a conventional working sphere, supporting the relevance of a practice that fuses with other subjects, as a means to incite new work processes and approaches in a projective context. The essay is therefore found on an architectural approach that, through a specific gaze (incompleteness’s), intends the construction of a narrative on an unconventional field of study.
