Resumo(s): | In this dissertation we analyze the impacts on the comparability of the transition from
Portuguese accounting standards (POC) to international accounting standards as adopted by
Portugal (SNC), for a sample of SMEs, pointed out as excellent, in view of their financial
performance over the past three years.
The specific objectives of the study are: to identify significant differences in the ratios and
the headings of financial statements (balance sheet and income statement) when presented
in POC and under SNC; to assess impacts of the adoption of the SNC in terms of net income
and financial position (equity).
The results show that individual items in the Balance sheet such as: tangible fixed assets,
reserves and retained earnings, non-current liabilities, non-current financing, non-current
deferred tax liabilities, current accounts payable, current financing, present significant
differences. On the other hand, in the remaining items of the balance sheet, we did not find
significant differences. For the aggregated items of the balance sheet and of the income
statement, as well as for the ratios we do not find significant differences in the statistical
tests performed. Results also show that the Gray’s conservatism index does not present
significant differences between the previous and the present accounting standards.
Regarding the impact of the adoption of the SNC on net income and equity, results show
that there is no empirical evidence suggesting the presence of significant differences. |
