A importância das TIC na promoção do envelhecimento activo

Abstract

Nas últimas décadas temos vindo a assistir a uma das mais importantes alterações demográficas na história da humanidade, o envelhecimento global da população, ao qual Portugal não se mantém alheio. Por ser um fenómeno inevitável e generalizado a todo o mundo, conduz a alterações estruturais das sociedades, reflectindo-se no crescimento económico, no mercado de trabalho, de capitais e de consumo, nos sistemas de saúde e apoio social, nas estruturas familiares e no próprio indivíduo. No sentido de enfrentar esta nova realidade procuramos compreender as dinâmicas deste fenómeno e, sobretudo, as consequências e desafios resultantes. Não restam dúvidas que o maior desafio consiste em encarar este fenómeno como uma experiência positiva, ao invés de um problema social, mas para que tal aconteça é fundamental enriquecer esta fase da vida humana com oportunidades contínuas de saúde, participação e segurança. Nesta investigação, pretendemos perceber qual o papel das novas tecnologias, nomeadamente as TIC, no processo de envelhecimento activo da população. Para além da sua importância na melhoria da gestão e prestação de cuidados de saúde e de serviços sociais, as TIC podem ter um papel fundamental na melhoria da qualidade de vida dos idosos, diminuindo possíveis situações de isolamento e solidão e, melhorando as relações familiares e comunitárias. Os resultados obtidos na pesquisa empírica, procuram contribuir para a compreensão do processo de aceitação e utilização de tecnologias pelos idosos. Através do modelo teórico desenvolvido apresentamos as possíveis relações entre as variáveis influenciadoras da utilização de tecnologias e a promoção de um envelhecimento activo.

In recent decades we have been witnessing a major demographic change in human history, the aging of the population, to which Portugal is not indifferent. Because it is an inevitable phenomenon and widespread throughout the world, leads to structural changes of society, with reflections on the economic growth, in the labor market, capital and consumption, health systems and social support, family structures and on the individual. In order to face this new reality, we try to understand the dynamics of this phenomenon and, above all, the consequences and challenges arising. There is no doubt that the biggest challenge is to face this phenomenon as a positive experience, rather than a social problem, but for this to happen it is essential enhance this phase of human life with ongoing opportunities for health, participation and security. In this investigation, we want to understand which is the role of new technologies, especially ICT, in the process of active aging. Besides its importance in improving the delivery of health care and social services, ICT can play a key role in improving the quality of life for seniors, reducing possible situations of isolation and loneliness, and improving family and Community relationships. The results achieved in the empirical research, seek to contribute to understanding the process of adoption and use of technologies by the elderly. Through the theoretical model we present the possible relationships between variables which influence the use of technologies and promotion of active aging.
