Sustainability and the overall confort in buildings

Abstract

The main aim of this work is to build a database of optimized solutions (envelop construction solutions, materials, fenestration and ventilation strategies, thermal mass) throughout a multi-criteria analysis, in order to improve the overall performance of buildings accomplishing all the comfort requirements (higrothermal, acoustic, lighting and indoor air quality) and at the same time reducing the energy costs. Besides the analytical study performed in this work, the indoor environment quality will also be characterised through “in situ” measurements, in terms of indoor air quality, higrothermal environment, lightning and acoustics in several Portuguese buildings.
