Resumo(s)Available models for the prediction of the reinforcement spatial distribution resulting from centrifugal casting of metal-matrix functionally graded composites assume a radial geometry for the system, a constant centrifugal acceleration, a plane solidification front and the ready engulfment of the ceramic particles by the solidifying metal. However, the last two conditions may not be observed at all in real systems, whereas the first two are applicable to radial centrifugal casting but not to longitudinal centrifugxal casting. The present work constitutes an effort to assess the relevant issues which should be addressed in order to adapt the existing models to the conditions prevailing in longitudinal centrifugal casting
