Configurações da infância em textos de manuais escolares

Abstract

A presente investigação inscreve-se dominantemente nos Estudos da Criança. Convoca pressupostos da Sociologia da Infância, mas privilegia a análise da materialidade linguística dos textos, no quadro da Análise do Discurso de tradição francófona. Retoma um estudo anterior (disseminado em Castro e Ramos 2014, 2017 e 2018) e aplica os mesmos métodos e objetivos nele adotados a uma nova geração de manuais/livros escolares usados no sistema de ensino português (língua portuguesa, 4.º ano do 1.º ciclo do Ensino Básico). Analisa as estratégias de construção da imagem das crianças nestes suportes, fundamentando tal análise nos recursos linguísticos mais relevantes associados a tal construção, nomeadamente os tipos textuais dominantes. Complementando o referido estudo anterior, permite um olhar diacrónico sobre aspetos dos textos dos manuais escolares. Dos resultados podem decorrer reflexões úteis a autores de manuais, editoras, professores e investigadores. A análise permite verificar que houve um ganho de diversidade nos tipos de texto presentes nos manuais escolares entre os dois momentos de observação, pelo menos entre os textos que colaboram de forma relevante na construção da imagem da infância. Conclui que, apesar disso, as crianças dos textos continuam a ser seres resignados e obedientes, consumidores mas não coprodutores de cultura e que os textos inculcam valores conformadores da manutenção da ordem social estabelecida. Assim, estes manuais tendem mais facilmente a criar cidadãos amorfos e acríticos do que cidadãos ativos e alerta na construção da sociedade.

The present research is framed within the comprehensive field of child studies. It evokes several assumptions from sociology of childhood, but emphasizes analysis of the linguistic materiality of texts, within the framework of French tradition discourse analysis. It resumes a previous study (disseminated in Castro and Ramos 2014, 2017 and 2018) and applies the same methods and objectives to a new generation of school textbooks in use in the Portuguese education system (Portuguese language, 4th year of 1st cycle of basic education). It analyses the strategies for constructing the image of children on these supports, grounding this analysis on the most relevant linguistic resources associated with this construction, namely the dominant textual types. Complementing the aforementioned study, it allows a diachronic view of relevant aspects of textbooks. The results may lead to useful reflections for authors of textbooks, publishers, teachers and researchers. The analysis shows that there is a gain in diversity in the types of text present in the textbooks between the two moments of observation, at least among the texts that play in a relevant role in the construction of the image of childhood. The conclusion is that, despite this, the children in the texts are still resigned and obedient beings, consumers but not co-producers of culture; and that the texts inculcate values that conform to the maintenance of the established social order. Thus, these textbooks are more likely to create amorphous and uncritical citizens than active and aware citizens in the process of building society.
