dc.description.abstract[Excerpt] One of the long-standing goals of military research area is to achieve protection against chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or explosive warfare without adding extra weight to the soldier’s protective system. The fibres’ functionalization with nanoparticles, due to their lightweight properties and high surface area, can be used for this purpose[1]. Synthetic fibres such as polyamide HT, UHMWPE and aramid are valuable options, howevernatural fibres, like flax, jute, sisal orcotton, are very promising materials for replacing the synthetic ones, duetotheir low cost, lightness, durability, abundance, biocompatibility and biodegradability[2].
