O ensino da biotecnologia com recurso a um modelo de Ensino Orientado para a Mudança Concetual: uma abordagem centrada no tema dos Organismos Geneticamente Modificados e Transgénicos

Abstract

O presente relatório de estágio incide sobre o tema dos Organismos Geneticamente Modificados (OGM) e Organismos Transgénicos (OT). Este ainda é um tema que suscita na sociedade, por um lado, esperança por condições de vida melhores, possibilitando a resolução de muitos problemas da sociedade e, por outro, receios das consequências que a sua produção e utilização poderá acarretar. Por este motivo, a produção e utilização destes organismos é bastante controversa e ainda está longe de ser consensual. Desta forma, pretendeu-se possibilitar aos alunos de uma turma do 12º ano de escolaridade, uma melhor compreensão dos conteúdos que abrangem o tema, através da criação e implementação de estratégias de ensino que utilizaram recursos como a WebQuest e o Role Playing, para que estes pudessem adotar uma posição fundamentada relativamente ao mesmo. Com a utilização destes recursos, a presente investigação teve o intuito de verificar a ocorrência de mudança concetual nos alunos atendendo às conceções alternativas por eles apresentadas antes da lecionação, detetadas a partir da aplicação de um questionário de investigação. Pretendeu-se, assim, verificar a ocorrência de mudança concetual nos alunos, com vista a tomadas de decisão devidamente fundamentadas relativamente à produção e utilização de OGM e OT. De acordo com esta investigação, observou-se que os alunos se apresentavam inicialmente pouco informados acerca dos conceitos de OGM e OT, das aplicações destes organismos e das suas vantagens e desvantagens. Apresentavam também bastantes ideias cientificamente erradas sobre o tema. As estratégias implementadas, para a lecionação deste tema, orientadas para a mudança concetual, revelaram-se eficazes para ultrapassar a maioria das conceções alternativas apresentadas pelos alunos e alterar a sua tomada de posição face a este tema controverso. O conhecimento concetual dos alunos, de uma forma geral, mostrou-se mais próximo daquilo que é cientificamente aceite, e os argumentos dos alunos relativamente à produção e utilização de OGM e OT foram mais diversificados e mais bem fundamentados. Para além disso, a WebQuest e o Role Playing permitiram que os alunos se conseguissem posicionar face a esta problemática, como consequência dos conhecimentos adquiridos.

This research focuses on the topic of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) and Transgenic Organisms (TO). This is still a topic that raises in society, on one hand, the hope for better living conditions, enabling the resolution of many problems in society and, on the other hand, the fears of the consequences that their production and use can arise. For this reason, the production and use of these organisms is quite controversial and stills far from general consensus. The purpose of this investigation was to provide to the students of a class from the 12th year of schooling, a better understanding of the contents concerning the topic, through the establishment and implementation of teaching strategies as the WebQuest and Role Playing so that they could adopt a reasoned position in this subject. With the implementation of these strategies, this research was to verify the occurrence of conceptual change in students given the alternative conceptions they already had before the teaching of this subject, detected from the application of a questionnaire of investigation. It was intended to verify the occurrence of conceptual change in students, and properly decision-making regarding the production and use of GMO and TO. According to this investigation, it was noted that students were initially little informed about the concepts of GMO and TO, the applications of these organisms and their advantages and disadvantages. They had also plenty of scientifically wrong ideas about the topic. The strategies created, oriented to conceptual change, for the teaching of this theme, proved to be effective to overcome most of the alternative conceptions made by students in its position facing this controversial topic. The conceptual knowledge of the students, generally speaking, was closest to what is scientifically accepted, and the students' arguments regarding the production and use of GMO and TO were more diverse and more well-founded. In addition, the WebQuest and Role Playing allowed the students to have a position regarding this problem as a consequence of the knowledge acquired.
