This thesis deals with the relationship between art and social networks. It aims to identify the reason, the shape and the benefits that lead the artist, the promoting entity of art and its admirers / critics to this cultural exchange. It analyzes, symbolically and qualitatively, the socio-cultural purposes of the use of the work of art in this age of cyber culture. Essentially, its goal is to clarify the relationship between art and the media, especially in this new technological period, by the new languages that triggers, for the conceptual recast that occurs, and by the identity nourishing that encloses. It also focuses on the possibility of the existence of an imagery transfiguration of the work of art, in its virtual revelation, or of a radical transformation, to the point of alternating, ideologically, from its initial purpose, duplicating the individual, providing him new conceptual borders and idiosyncratic approaches. So, we carried out a theoretical incursion into the virtual world of social networks in order to understand how cultural democratization, access, fruition and the marketing of the work of art are performed. For that scope, we made a comparative study, based on non-participant direct observation, whether of virtual spaces or physical ones. It was also interviewed a population, credible and referential, that represents the three dimensions that are studied: the one that produces art, the one that disseminates it, and the one that appreciates it (taking into account, for these three categories, two subdimensions: traditional means and digital resources). The crosschecking of the obtained data allowed us to understand, not only the differences that were found, but also the harbingers, or obvious symptoms, of a radical transformation that the creation, disclosure and artistic appreciation face. Given the abstract nature, and constantly development, of the phenomena, this research aims to contribute to a better understanding of what has changed in the way people create and spread art, to know the way how the target-audience thinks - which has also changed - and how it relates with art and, essentially, with himself. Finally, this study clarifies, within the boundaries that make it possible, who stands, in fact, as the primary agent of transformation: art, its critical or the electronic device which arose between these two.
