Intervenção em ruína: reabilitação e ampliação para o Centro Paroquial e Comunitário de Matamá

Abstract

O contexto contemporâneo que nos envolve denuncia variadas construções desprovidas de qualquer propósito de vida. Cabe à arquitetura o preponderante papel de consciencialização e intervenção nestas realidades, devolvendo-lhes as potencialidades espaciais assim como a revitalização do meio que as envolve. Geralmente olhadas como estruturas mortas, as ruínas podem ser vistas não só como composições que resistiram à passagem do tempo, mas também como a materialização genuína de memórias e realidades passadas. O projeto aqui desenvolvido apresenta como principal diretriz a recuperação de uma ruína mais abrangente que um edifício: simultaneamente pretende-se devolver a identidade a uma construção abandonada, a um lugar de referência esquecido e a uma comunidade secular, cada vez mais desagregada. Neste sentido, a intervenção vai para lá do desenvolvimento espacial arquitetónico e é encarada como elemento fundamental agregador de uma comunidade. Numa área coletiva requer-se um espaço que, além de referência local, permita receber e unificar uma comunidade. Reabilitando e ampliando uma construção em ruína idealiza-se o projeto de um “centro paroquial e comunitário”. A comunidade toma papel fulcral ao afigurar-se como requerente, como mote de inspiração, como programa e ruína a intervir. Procurando no passado as indicações de um futuro, o projeto desenvolve-se apoiado no percurso histórico da comunidade e do Lugar onde se insere. Pretende-se casar estruturas do passado com programas do presente e tomar o respeito pela ruína e sua reinterpretação como processo criativo.

The contemporary context, in which we find ourselves today, brings out the devoid in construction. It’s up to architecture to take the important role in bringing awareness and cause of action, recovering its attitude within it’s surroundings, by impending new spatial solutions. Normally seen as “dead” structures, these vestiges can be interpreted as a genuine manifestation of memories and realities in the past rather than compositions that resisted decomposition over time. The project here developed, presents a more omnibus approach to a ruin rather than a building; simultaneously, with the objective of returning the identity to an abandoned construction, a forgotten place of reference and a dissolved centennial community. In this sense, the intervention will go beyond spatial development; it will be taken on as fundamental element that aggregates a community. In a collective area, besides being a point of reference it also has to be seen as a space that receives and unites a community. This can be realized through the rehabilitation and extension of this ruin, with the vision and purpose of turning into a “Parish community centre.” The community will play an important role as the claimant, becoming the centre of inspiration as the proposed programme and the “ruin” itself. Taking a look into the past searching for clues of the future, the project will develop incumbent on the historical path of the community and the place where it belongs. Intentions of bonding together structures of the past with a program of the present; transforming a traditional form of speech into stimuli for innovation, gaining respect for the “ruin” and how it’s being interpreted into the creative process.
