Os usos da arquitectura em Ai Weiwei

Abstract

Esta dissertação propõe um olhar sobre a obra do artista plástico chinês Ai Weiwei que surge como motivação, por se reconhecer, na sua obra, uma capacidade de dissolução dos limites de actuação entre arte e arquitectura, sustentando-a com um corpo vasto de trabalho que muito nos interessa e estimula. Sempre com as mesmas motivações que o tornaram artista plástico, a relação complexa que mantém entre arte e política, no contexto específico da sociedade e cultura chinesa, formam o corpo crítico da sua obra construída com grande sacrifício pessoal. A componente política que se reconhece na sua obra (que o levou à prisão numa China só aparentemente democrática) é ponto de partida para se analisar a relação dos seus projectos de arquitectura como os seus usos. É precisamente a ubiquidade do seu trabalho que o tornam especialmente aliciante para a afinidade, que se procura perceber nesta dissertação, entre arquitectura e política. Ai Weiwei declara o direito de se envolver na crítica social, e os seus projectos e obras exigem interacção social.

This paper traces a study of the work of the chinese artist Ai Weiwei, who emerged as a motivation, by recognizing in his work a capacity to dissolve the limits between art and architecture, supported with a long body of work that interests and stimulats us. Always with the same motivations that made him an artist, the complex relationship that he maintains between arts and politics, in the specific context of Chinese culture and society, form the body of his critical work built with great personal sacrifice. The political component which is recognized in his work (causing his arrestment in China, apparently democratic) is the starting point for analyzing the relationship of their architectural projects as theirs uses. It is precisely the ubiquity that his work suggest, that make it especially attractive to the relation between architecture and politic that this thesis pretends to engaged and seeks to realize. Ai Weiwei declares the right to be engaged in social criticism, and their artist and architectural works require social interaction.
