todas as grávidas.
controlada durante a contracção uterina e o momento do parto.
As conclusões decorrentes desta
According to the Portuguese legislation, the preparation for motherhood / parenthood is a right for all pregnant women. The psychoprophylactic method is aimed at pregnant women experiencing labour and delivery applying control methods of the situation affecting their body, through the deconditioning of the negative effects (pain) and the conditioning of positive reflexes. It is intended that the pregnant woman acquires this knowledge and uses it in the most natural way possible, and without recourse to other methods (e.g. analgesia). With this preparation, a woman in labour increases her threshold of sensitivity to pain, using relaxation and controlled breathing techniques during uterine contraction and childbirth. Thus, this research aims: to characterize the perception of puerperal women in labour and delivery and their facilitating factors and constraints; to investigate the perception of mothers regarding the contributions of the psychoprophylactic method for labour and delivery; to assess the knowledge acquired by puerperal women in preparation classes for delivery using the psychoprophylactic method; to characterize the opinion of puerperal women regarding preparation classes for childbirth using the psychoprophylactic method. The technique for data collection used in this qualitative study was the semi-structured interview which involved puerperal women, primiparous (n = 8), who attended preparation classes for childbirth using the psychoprophylactic method. The content analysis of all the interviews showed that most respondents considered that during labour and delivery: they applied the techniques learned during the training of the psychoprophylactic method; that pain was the main constraining factor; breathing and relaxation techniques helped to control pain; their anxiety, fear and uncertainty of the moment also generated a mixture of concern and lack of control which caused difficulty in the application of breathing and relaxation techniques; all agreed that the main facilitating factors were the use of breathing and relaxation techniques, a better understanding of their body and the importance of the presence of experienced professionals and specialists in obstetrics and maternal health. The interviewees also recognized the usefulness of the preparation for childbirth using the psychoprophylactic method and showed a good knowledge of the termination of the pregnancy stage, being able to describe the signs of early labour, and that their learning regarding the different types of breathing was fundamental in the control of their bodies and that they were able to apply what they had learned in class in the second stage. Finally, all respondents said they liked the childbirth preparation classes which applied the psychoprophylactic method; they evaluated the personal and professional skills of teachers in the class positively and said they would recommend these classes to other pregnant women. Therefore, the conclusions of this research reinforce the importance of preparation for labour and childbirth with the psychoprophylactic method. |
