O ideário pedagógico de Bronson Alcott

Abstract

O presente texto analisará o papel inovador e revolucionário de Bronson Alcott no cenário da pedagogia do romantismo norte-americano. Como educador, Alcott partilha de uma velha tradição que se estende desde os tempos clássicos até à Europa do romantismo. No entanto, Alcott oferece uma visão genuinamente nativista da educação, uma visão que deverá ser considerada dentro de esforço de criar um ser humano novo para o novo mundo. É, principalmente, um esforço educativo direccionado para a participação do cidadão num processo político que fundamenta a democracia na sacralidade do indivíduo, criado à imagem e semelhança de Deus. Fazemos, pois, um percurso pelas diferentes propostas pedagógicas de Alcott em relação à ideologia filosófica e religiosa da que fazem parte. The present text will analyze the innovative and revolutionary role of Bronson Alcott in American pedagogy. As an educator, Alcott is indebted to an old rich tradition that spans from classical times to European romanticism. Alcott, nevertheless, offers a genuinely American vision over education, a vision that must necessarily be considered in the scope of an effort to create a new man for the new world. It is an educational effort focused in the creation of a participative citizen within the political system based upon a democracy that believes in the sacred quality of the individual human being, created after the image of God. We will look at the different pedagogical proposals introduced by Alcott and their relation to the philosophy and religious beliefs of which they make part.
